Firelord Azulon is dead. After 79 Years as Fire Lord, the longest reign in history Azulon died in his sleep, just shy of his one hundredth birthday. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Illah, and his younger son Ozai.
Azulon’s hier is his elder son Iroh. Although Iroh withdrew from public life following his failure at Ba Sing Se and the death of his own son, his succession is unquestioned. But with Lu Ten gone, Ozai’s line now stands to inherit. His widow Ursa, a political force. His daughter Azula a powerful bender and a budding plotter. And Zuko, now heir to the throne, is known more for his dashing good looks than his leadership. Most observers think the Dragon of the West will have to keep his family close as he embarks on an ambitious project of reform for the Fire Nation.

Summary
It's been two decades since the Battle of Hogwarts, and the obvious happily-ever-afters lined up ahead of Hermione Granger and Harry Potter failed to pan out years ago. When a mysterious magical storm quickly grows to cover Scotland with no sign of slowing, the pair are brought together to try to stop it - despite having been increasingly distant toward each other over the last several years.
Follow them as they slog across an area warded against magical travel to face an unknown danger while they become more aware of the very proximate danger and hope they represent to each other's equilibrium. While both have led successful careers, neither has excelled at recovering in the aftermath of the war, which both pushes them apart and pulls them, inexorably, together.
The present-day action is broken up with flashbacks to some of the seminal experiences and relationships that have shaped who they are.

Carefully, Missy finally pulls back but lets her hand linger on Bill's. “Is this why you’ve been pretending to be sick?” she asks quietly. “I figured you were mad at him or something like that.”
“I am sick,” Bill retorts, drawing back into himself. He can see her about to speak but he cuts her off. “I am,” he says, laying down roughly. His eyebrows draw together angrily as he glares at the ceiling. “Sick in the head. Dudes aren't supposed to wanna be with other dudes. That’s what babes are for.” He feels something in him shudder at the words and tries to repeat them to himself mentally until he can make them sound okay.
“Bill.” He doesn't move. Missy huffs. “William Stanley Preston, Esquire, you listen to me right now,” she says sternly. He's never heard her use his full name before, and the shock of that alone makes him sit upright immediately. “Loving someone is something that comes naturally,” she tells him. “It’s not your fault, and it isn't wrong.”

He drew Snape as Headmaster, his sneer easy after seven years of notebook margin practice. Dean drew the Dark Mark over London’s skyline and he left his work nailed up around Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade, Godric’s Hollow. He signed his name. He had things he wanted to say.
There were long days when he didn’t talk to anyone– walking old fields and long roads, sleeping in haystacks. There were long weeks when he only talked to strangers– passersby, shop owners, sympathizers, snatchers who he traded curses with.
He drew the Gryffindor Common Room, hearths all ablaze. He listened to Lee Jordan’s radio show on the crackling airwaves. He drew his little sisters, who had gone to France with his mother and father. He drew faces from the darkened boys’ dormitory– Harry’s long bangs hiding his scar, Neville practicing his dance moves for the Yule Ball, Ron asleep with his head on his thick Weasley sweater, Seamus grinning at him over a three a.m. game of cards.
