They’re both tactile drunks and Alejandro seems to hardly notice the way he props an arm on his thigh to balance when he feels like leaning backward might be the wrong choice to make but leaning forwards is no longer an option he has the skill for. No words are exchanged as Alejandro nudges the glass of water toward him. He drinks the rest of it in one fell swoop.
This time, the finger wiping water from his lips isn’t his own, but Alejandro’s thumb. Taking care of him. Rudy turns his face into the other man’s neck, murmuring his thanks.
He must be drunker than he'd thought, because for a second he thinks Alejandro shudders against him.

It’s ‘yes and I like the way ingredients fall to pieces beneath my hands and I can mold them back together into something real and something good,’ it’s ‘yes and I want my knives to be able to dice and slash and cut more than people,’ it’s ‘yes and I’m not a good person, but this way I can shape a meal with my hands and my heart and let it fill the bellies of the people I adore, sustain them, protect them, fuel them.’ It’s ‘yes and’ - Ghost does not share this.
“Never saw you as the homebody type, L.t.,” Soap says and there’s a smile in his voice, which is the only thing that stops him from punching him.

Laughing, Soap shakes his head and punches Ghost’s shoulder, “Haud yer wheesht.”
“English, MacTavish.” Ghost tells him, and Soap can hear the smile in his voice.
Soap hopes Ghost can’t see the way he blushes, “Oh, fuck off.”

“But? But what, Lt? You think your life isn’t worth it? Well, it fuckin’ is. Alright? No amount of arguing is going to make me change my mind or wish I’d done things differently.” Soap snapped, before calming himself down.
Ghost couldn’t think of a way to respond so remained silent. He watched as Soap took a deep breath, knowing he was about to say something else.
“Look, Ghost, I don’t wanna argue with ya. Especially over something so stupid. If I had to take a bullet to get you then I would have, gladfully. What’s done is done. Let’s leave it at that.”
“Don’t say that, Johnny.” Ghost spoke, his voice quiet.
“Say what?”
“That you’d take a bullet.”
“I would, though.” Soap replied, fiddling with piece of bandage wrapper in his hands.
“Just… don’t. You said you’d be better than me, one day, Johnny. You can’t do that if you’re dead.”

Simon is the man behind the mask. He's allowed to feel, to be human, but only when the mask is off. Sometimes Simon spends an evening at the bar. He'll find a pretty gent or lady, release his stress, and be on his way. Next morning he'd put the mask back on, and forget any feelings he may have had.
The line never blurred until John "Soap" MacTavish walked into the bar one fateful night.

“Uncle Johnny, you like Ghostie?” Eilidh asks and Soap jumps, almost forgetting she was there.
“Jesus kid, shut yer trap!” Soap blushes. He really does feel like a school kid being teased for his stupid crush, “It’s not your business.”
“If you like Ghostie, and you’re my Uncle Johnny, does that make him Uncle Ghostie?” She asks and Soap just groans. Children are evil, he’s convinced of it.
“Yeah Johnny, am I?” Ghost joins in and Soap just huffs. Eilidh leans back a little too far on Ghosts shoulders and he has to lean forward to counter the action. Johnnys hand instantly flies up Ghosts back and onto his nieces, holding her protectively in place. When he realises she’s safe, he lets his hand fall but doesn’t retract it. He breaks out of his comfort zone and rests his hand on Ghosts back, just between his strong shoulder blades so he can grab Eilidh quickly if he needs to.
“You can be whatever you want to be Simon.”
