Post season 1 reunion fic with a focus on Stizzy/Gentlehands as a leadup to eventual Steddy Hands. Accuracy around history, piracy, and medicine are on the backburner. It's eventually very hopeful and loving, I think, but it takes a little while to get there. Check the notes at the beginning (and beginnings of each chapter) for more trigger/content warnings.

“There we are.” Stede coos. Ed keeps his gaze on the blanket he’s holding tight, his expression a concoction of anxiety and sheepishness. His eyes dart up to Stede’s face for only a moment before shooting back down to the blanket, which he picks at the edge of absentmindedly.
Stede looks at him confusedly. “Ed?”
“Mm?”
Stede tenderly cups Ed’s face. With a slight sigh, Ed leans into it, which is at least typical of him.
“Is everything quite alright, love?”
“Mm…” Ed hums, leaning further into the contact. “Yeah.” He hugs the blanket a little closer. “Yeah…”
Ed learns to open up a bit more. Stede learns how to handle it.

“Hey, are you okay?”, his voice was hoarse from all the smoke he inhaled.
“...no”, Derek sniffled and curled up even more, “everything was burning and the fire and my family and they are all dead...”, he talked fast and quiet. He sounded terrified and way younger.
