Summary
After their first time in Montreal, Ilya ghosts Shane for over a year, keeping himself at a distance long after Sochi. No reason, no discussion, just silence. But when an MLH Awards forces them to present together, Ilya can't ignore Shane any longer and Shane won't let him.
Their heated reconciliation is interrupted after a knock on the penthouse door sends their night in a wildly different direction—one Ilya will never forget and Shane struggles to remember.
The next morning, Shane wakes up hungover, alone, and startled by the ring on his finger. With no Ilya in sight, and all texts unread, the familiar ghosting leaves Shane feeling rejected and freaking out, retreating to his summer cottage.
If only Shane knew Ilya was on a journey to protect them and would go to the ends of the earth (Canada) for… his husband.

Summary

In this one, Yuna Hollander walks in just as Ilya goes to leave and—through the combined power of misunderstanding, miscommunication, and a frankly alarming lack of follow-up—Shane and Ilya start dating in 2010.
Given the chance to grow up with rather than against each other, Shane and Ilya build a life thats steadier, safer, and far less frightening than their canon. Their rivalry fizzles before it ever has the chance to fully ignite, replaced by hockey’s most beloved “bromance", and in 2015, they find the courage to do the one thing their canon counterparts never got to do: tell the NHL and the world.
There is just one problem: No one believes them.

“Fuck off, asshole,” Hollander breathes out, but the look in his eyes says yes and more please. “You can’t just come back here and–”
Just as Ilya is about to lean down and kiss the next words out of Hollander’s mouth, a buzzing sound startles them both. He glances down to see Hollander’s phone vibrating on the countertop with a text notification from someone named Matty.
In an alternate timeline, Shane resolves to move on after Sochi. When he and Ilya reunite for the MLH Awards in Vegas, Ilya takes the news of Shane's new "friend" about as well as you'd expect.

As it pertained to his sexuality, he’d crossed the Rubicon. And there was no going back. The man-on-man sex bell had been rung. But could someone tell by looking at him? Was there something different about his eyes or his face… or maybe his lips?
Shane brought his right index finger up and traced his lower lip. Immediately he could vividly imagine the feeling of Ilya’s soft, full lips on his, pressing and pushing; his tongue seeking entrance and Shane granting it.
Shane closed his eyes and sighed as he relived the way Ilya had (gently) taken his face in his hand to hold him steady as he initiated their first kiss.
