Summary
“You were the King of Hawkins High -- what have you ever lost, huh?" snapped Jonathan. "A little sleep? Your fucking prom king title? Give me a break. I’m sick of you acting like you know what we’ve been through, you weren’t even there when it started!”
Steve stood up. “Shut up, Byers.”

Summary
Darry was going to be sick.
The grief kept climbing up his throat, curling deep inside his gut- salt in the wound. It had been half a year, and he still hadn’t cried.
He couldn’t, anyway. He didn’t have the time.
or,,, Darry has not thought about himself in ages. People are starting to notice.

Summary
Arthur turned towards him, his piercing eyes illuminated by moonlight. “What are you going on about?”
“Me,” said Merlin. He threw the blanket off of him, and gagged. “Fuck. No.”
Arthur sat up even straighter. Almost as if he cared about Merlin’s unease. About Merlin. But that wasn’t possible. It wasn’t.
Arthur moved closer. “What’s the matter with you?” He grabbed Merlin’s arm, pulling him towards him to look at his face. He sucked in a breath, noticing Merlin’s eyes, which were most certainly glazed over, if Merlin’s hazy vision was any indication. Arthur pressed the back of his palm to Merlin’s forehead. He swallowed. “You’re burning up, Merlin. Are you ill?”

Summary
“Don’t tell Steve,” Ponyboy grits out harshly, fighting back tears in his eyes. He hadn’t taken his hands away from his ankle since Two-Bit had stopped by to pick him up from practice.
“Kid, I’m not sure that’s a good idea,” said Two-Bit, eyes flickering over to Pony from the driver’s seat. “He’s the one who’s staying over while Darry and Soda are out of town, not me.”

Summary
Darry didn’t know the last time he had slept.
Not really, anyway. It had been intervals of one, maybe two, maybe three hours a night- if he was lucky.
He just couldn’t. Not with the bills piling up, not with the social workers breathing down his neck, waiting for him to mess up.
or, Darry Curtis is making himself sick, trying to work as much as possible to support his brothers. He wants to make sure their family stays together.
Sodapop and Ponyboy just want Darry to take a break.

Summary
It doesn’t matter that he gets virtually no sleep, or that his grades are at an all-time low. It doesn’t matter that he jumps at absolutely everything and that he thinks he’s going crazy. And it certainly doesn’t matter that his parents are back in town. Non of that matters because life has never been better for Steve Harrington… at least that’s what he tells himself anyway.

Doyti do ruchki, a Russian phrase which means "arrive at one's finger-ends", or rather, to reach rock bottom.

Summary
Jonathan realizes what’s happening just a split second after his fate is sealed. He sees the sharpness in her grin.
The two of them turn to see Tommy, Carol, and, of course, Steve Harrington leaned up against the lockers trying to smother matching grins. Tommy tilts his head and smiles in mock sympathy, like “better luck next time”. Carol waves at him playfully. Jonathan meets Steve’s eyes and holds his gaze for a few seconds before Steve frowns and looks away.
“Nevermind.” He mutters, his face burning red. “I’m sure you’ll be able to find someone else.” He slams his locker shut and walks as quickly as he can to the next period.

Steve changes. Jonathan notices. It feels unfair, after everything.

Summary
“Steven,” he says, slurs, maybe, a little at the end, “I am so deeply apologetic for the way I kicked your ass when we fought five years ago.”
Steve is close enough in his beanbag that he can swat Jonathan’s outstretched hand away.
“I’m seriously not mad about it. Or like, not at you. I just mean like—you, Billy, the demobats, the—” Steve’s voice trails off, distant for a second, like he was going to say something else and then decided not to. “All I’m saying is, it’s a long line of people who have beaten my ass. I have a jaded interest in trying not to add to it.”
Jonathan rolls his head over—feels how heavy it is, enjoys it, the looseness of it all—and narrows his eyes at Steve, who is looking at him plaintively. He has a sense of where this was going, and no real desire to follow it there, but he’s too damn tired and too grateful for Steve’s quiet home and good pot and newfound friendship to fully dig his heels in about it.
“Teach me,” Steve pleads, hands clasped for effect. “Jonathan Byers, teach me how to not get my ass kicked anymore.”
OR: Jonathan teaches Steve how to take a punch, and it goes very poorly, for both involved.
