Summary
Some stories end with a fall. This one begins with two. The soldier with the star-spangled shield became a weapon for the other side; decades later, the false prince fell from the sky and became their experiment. The soldier and the prince were never supposed to meet.
Or, the AU where Steve is the Winter Soldier and Loki’s a HYDRA guinea pig, and things are generally awful. Series title is from "Winter Bones" by Stars, which is particularly relevant for the end of the second fic and after.

"His heart beats too fast, his hands shake, and his vision darkens around the edges. He is weak. Still the agent is there. A steady hand set on Loki’s back, tense and ready should the god start to fall. The help burns at Loki’s ego, frays the already damaged edges but not enough for him to refuse. Not enough for him to send the mortal away."
Arriving on earth injured and exhausted Loki has no choice but to rely on a human for his survival. Good thing Clint has a heart of gold.

“Guess your new team is a bit better dressed than the Howlies,” Bucky says lightly. “Next thing you know, you’ll be more fashionable than me.”
Steve snorts at the same time his heart aches, sound muffled into the compression tank he’s pulling on and sensation hidden dull under his skin. It means a lot, hearing Bucky remembers stuff from the past, especially stuff that they shared when they were together like Steve’s perpetual hopelessness with dress and Bucky’s habit of forcing him to take his hand me down clothes. “Doubt it,” he responds quietly. “I thought I did pretty good today, but Sharon told me that you’re apparently not supposed to pair brown shades with grey.”

There was a softness to Loki now, one that had never been present before, something bordering on kindness that might become so much more if allowed to grow. It was small, fleeting, so delicate that it might shatter in an instant.
“Excuse me?” Loki appeared to be almost aghast, and for a moment Steve wondered if perhaps he had crossed a line. Yet, when the trickster god merely stared at him, Steve could not help the boyish grin that split his features.
“Just think about it.”

For obvious reasons, I picked up a tiny Loki action figure from Thor a couple years before I started posting these; in January 2014, I came across a tiny Thor to keep him company. I immediately took a couple stupid pictures of them and then I just...kept doing that, with increasingly elaborate captions and situations, because I really enjoy my stupid pictures and other people have been enjoying them too. I picked up a couple more Lokis and some other MCU action figures too, and sometimes completely unrelated action figures join in (I add tags as they become relevant). The first 60ish chapters are reposts of existing pictures; now that I've got all of those up, I'm just updating when I actually post new photos. Suggestions/ideas are always welcome!

Things Steve was not expecting (aside from "literally everything about this situation") on his first visit to Asgard: getting roped into a temporary job as Odin's errand boy, seeing an immensely powerful and ancient alien about an immensely powerful and ancient artifact, and touring said alien's bizarre collection of things and beings from across the galaxy.
Things he really, really wasn't expecting: finding Thor's not-actually-dead-after-all brother in a museum case as part of the collection. (The fact that this discovery results in various kinds of trouble is pretty much par for the course at this point, though.)
[This fic was originally started for MCU AU Fest in 2017 and finished for Marvel Big Bang the same year...and then finally revised into a more presentable state for WIP Big Bang in 2021.]

Summary
Someone had tried to kill Nick Fury, and Steve’s lucky he was there to prevent it, because that’s how he learned the first of the two most important things in his life.
The ghost story that everyone knows as the Winter Soldier? Turns out, it’s Bucky.
When Steve demands to be assigned to the Winter Soldier case, Fury indulges him. After all, who’d be better at catching a super soldier than another super soldier, right? Steve is good at pulling off stuff nobody else can.
Stuff like restoring Bucky’s memory. Because during one of their encounters, the Winter Soldier puts his finger in Steve’s mouth, and Steve learns the second most important thing in his life.
While Bucky’s mind might not remember him, Bucky’s body certainly does.
