Reki couldn’t go back to normal and Reki couldn’t forget and Reki couldn’t do anything without feeling like his insides were going to shred themselves to pieces, rebuild, and do it all over again. His knee bounced and his lips tightened and his whole entire body filled with heavy guilt as Langa excitedly pointed out the details from the video that he’d missed.
Langa’s victory was a week ago, and that entire time Reki had been too terrified of messing up their friendship to apologize. He never said sorry to Langa for abandoning him or saying the hurtful things he’d said or being the worst friend in the world.
In which Reki builds up the courage to apologize for Langa for basically running away from him, and then gets everything he's ever wished for.

He’s only seen Tyler’s face through a screen until now. Nothing could prepare him for this. And for a split second, as Tyler looks out into the crowd, their eyes meet. The hairs on the back of Josh’s neck raise, a wave of electricity sliding down his spine. It’s like time stops for just a moment and the whole crowd around him disappears, leaving just him and Tyler.
And then the music starts.
Every grainy video Josh has watched is blown out of the water. Nothing could ever prepare him for how it feels to be in the crowd, to witness this with his own eyes. One word comes to mind as he watches Tyler play: brilliance. Every twitch of his head, every desperate slam of his fingers against the keys of his piano, the scratch of his voice as he screams out. Josh feels it all in his soul. Right then and there, Josh falls in love with everything about this band. Everything besides the fact that he’s not in it.
And really, this is when it starts.

deep down, tyler knew that josh hadn’t done anything wrong. tyler was simply being a bitter asshole, but he couldn’t find it in him to care. josh was part of this now; he was part of the problem. he didn’t need a tutor, he wasn’t going to take josh’s help because he didn’t need it. all he had to do was study, but now josh was stopping that from happening.

Again, vague embarrassment. Heat in his cheeks he can't explain. His eyes flick down at Newt's chest, the way his shirt is see through in the yellow light of the fire.
"Maybe I can help you concentrate."
"Do you know what you're offering, Tommy?" Newt laughs again, but there's such fondness in the nickname that a foreign heat furls from the anxious ball in Thomas's chest.
He remembers a vague idea of attraction, and honestly? It felt a whole lot like this.
