The thing is, Stede wasn’t afraid of him. He might be mental, or an absolute lunatic, but he wasn’t afraid of him. He brandishes a pair of silk, orange trousers (fecking hideous, Ed loves it), and honest-to-God beams. It’s a number of things that lets Ed want to crawl out of his own skin, and finds himself reaching the conclusion with startling clarity. That no one has looked at him that way in a long time.
