“Do I have a name to call my new shadow?” Techno called out behind him, as he scouted the perimeter of the forest. The forest trees were thick, roots the width of his waist. Creeping vines hung above him, curling around the trunk like arms. He wondered how long they’ll be playing this game.
“Philza,” came the reply. It caught Techno off guard, and he barely caught himself from snagging his foot on a crawling end of a tree root.
Philza. A strange name. It felt ancient somehow, like when ancient text is transcribed into modern tongue.
“Are you human, Philza?”
There was no answer, and a thicker silence than before followed.
And that had been that.

Dream gave Tommy a glare, and despite having never met the spirit before, Tommy had the feeling that it wasn’t very genuine, and so he only grinned in response, completely unrepentant.
The Guardian seemed almost amused for a moment, before the atmosphere noticeably shifted. A tension that Tommy had scarcely noticed before, once again present in the spirit's stance.
”The Three are back.”
Tommy’s smile slid off his face.

For some, the virus overtakes the body in minutes, violent convulsions the only warning before they turn their teeth on whoever is left. For others it takes as long as three days-- three long, miserable days of suffering, fever, and rot. In the end, the time between the bite and the turn means nothing but how long they suffer before their body shudders its final breath, then sits back up to spread the horror anew.
It does not linger past three days.
Tommy has lasted a week.

The wolf circles him again, its eyes bright and calculating. Like it’s judging him. Tommy’s breath hitches, grip tightening on the knife in his hand.
He doesn’t want to die, but if he does, he’d really like to die fast.
