A weapons lab in Brussels had come under suspicion in the last six months and they were to extract the research and the chemical weapon they were set to make a profit off of. Last-minute briefing and gear up. Meet in the hangar at 0700. He didn’t question it and he wasn’t sure why. He should have when he saw Rumlow’s name come up on his roster. Rotten bastard. That should have been his first red flag.

Before Rhodey met him, the image he had of Tony Stark was this: he was a lonely man living on the far, remote edge of the town, isolated so much that he was driven to insanity. His possible hobbies were either witchcraft or robotics or both or a hobby that mashed both together. He had a child-sized possibly living robot that he treated like a son. He was charming and funny, but his smile was always a little inhuman. He didn’t connect with the town’s people like the rest. He was too much for them.

You're the easiest to find.”
Tony rolled his eyes. “Yeah, no shit. I can handle myself. Besides, what are you going to do? I wouldn't trust a single one of your agents, and I very much doubt you are going to stick around here yourself.”
Fury nodded. “True. I have things I need to do, as do you. You can't afford to be focusing on weeding out Hydra.” Tony didn't trust that agreeable tone. “But, I have someone who can.”
There it was.
He pulled the folder onto his knee, and cracked it open. A picture was paperclipped to the front, and a name sat at the top in dark, neat letters.

Tony froze. "No, we're not."
"Oh yes we are." Jim tossed three tuxedos onto the bed. Three was a good number of options, enough for Tony to make a choice, but not so many that he'd get lost analyzing the ramifications of navy pinstripes vs. charcoal paisley. Tony did best with clear, specific expectations rather than an unlimited universe of possibilities that he would inevitably filter through his neuroses and obsess over, and Jim was really kicking himself for not considering that, oh, ten years ago when they’d first started this, but there was no point in beating himself up about it now when he could put that energy towards solving the problem instead. "You brought this on yourself, Tones. Pick a damn tux."
