Summary
As it stood, Eddie knew exactly what sort of person he was. He was a shitty, neurotic, repressed as all hell pretentious asshat, and he made every single decision every single day of his life based off of that knowledge. Sure, deciding to get screwed was a weird - but perhaps inevitable - lapse, but he thought he’d chosen the person to screw him quite well. Some average sort of guy on a dating app; no connection, no prospect, no chance in hell of ever having to see him again aside from weird eye contact at an H-E-B seven months after they’d had mind-blowingly average sex.
But Richie fucked all that up about as thoroughly as he fucked Eddie himself. Which, as he thought about as much as he tried to avoid thinking about, was very thoroughly.

Please. Please for your own happiness and wellbeing read this again. And again. It is legitimate perfection. You know when you get horny from love and joy? Yeah that happened to me a whole goddamn LOT throughout this Jesus. Also, if you need writing tips, read like one random fucking sentence from this and emulate it, and you’re bound to be on the right track. This may have singlehandedly changed my views on marriage, just saying. Eddie’s progression too... holy guacamole what a stunner. And as someone who has been to or lived in the majority of locations in this fic, the descriptions and atmosphere of each are unbelievably, p e r f e c t l y done. I have never read anything that so intimately portrays the feeling of California heat, or really anything this American (in the best way). And the author is Scottish??!? I am beyond impressed.
You know, I wrote that intending to have this be a private bookmark but fuck it, if for whatever reason someone is going through this fic's bookmarks or mine, if they need any more convincing to read it I am happy to air my personal shit to that end.

He’d wanted to kiss Richie for ages, and suddenly, on their walk home from school Richie just fuckin’… plants one on him, blushes beet red, uses a Voice to say “Good on ya, mate,” which didn’t even make fucking sense, and then takes off running in the opposite direction. Eddie had stood there, gaping, until Richie was an entire block away.
Or, Eddie has to sit on Richie's lap for a car ride two days after Richie kissed him and ran away. It's totally not awkward at all.

Eddie lets out a thinly veiled snort. He shakes his head and finally looks down to his shoes, trying his best to hide his smile. Was this guy for real?
“Ooh. Was that a laugh I heard? Are my jokes ap-peel-ing to you?” He pauses to use the scale to weigh the bananas. He looks up at Eddie to ridiculously wiggle his eyebrows.
Eddie finally cracks at that, a full laugh, and concedes, “You’re quick on your feet. Definitely less cringey than I thought this would be.”
“I’ll count that as a win. Feel free to join in!” The cashier slides the can of Campbell’s noodle soup across the scanner. “Don’t be chicken.”
Or, Richie works as a grocery store cashier who constantly forgets to wear his name tag and can’t stop serving up puns, but Eddie is kinda into it.

At one point, he poured Eddie a finger of Jameson and when Eddie tried to wave it off, Richie took hold of his wrist with one hand and pressed the glass into Eddie’s open palm with the other.
