Summary
The summer before college, Mike and Will move into a tiny studio together, ready to start their next chapter — only to discover their across-the-street neighbor has a very public, very active sex life. Their weekly “observations for research purposes” are all jokes and commentary…until one night the neighbor brings home a man, and something in Mike shifts. Suddenly the bit isn’t so funny, the spiral is very real, the lines start to get a little too blurry, and the curiosity feels a bit too personal. In the end, it doesn’t matter. None of it fucking matters. Because what’s really in control is the tension. This elusive string tied between their chests that’s always changing length. Right now it’s so short and taught and strong that Will can’t imagine resisting it. So really, it was never a matter of if he would. Just when. When will he fold? When will he let go and let himself follow Mike into the water?
He dares to glance down at his knees, where he can see Mike’s fingers peeking out from behind his calves (as if he needed that visual reminder that they’re touching), and then back up to meet Mike’s expectant gaze.
He’s going to do it. He’s such a fucking idiot.

“What!” It was Will’s turn to blush harder, giving him a glare reserved for Mike Wheeler and Mike Wheeler only. “No. God. That was ages ago. I’ve been past that for a long time.”
Mike motioned like he’d made his point. “See? So? It wouldn’t be weird.”
So, Mike likes guys. Fine, Will can live with that. Except now Mike's worried about having fallen behind and would really like some help practicing how to kiss a guy from his also-into-guys best friend. And Will is trying really, really hard to be a good mentor to him, so what is he going to do, say no?

He could see himself from the hips up. Messy brown hair going in three different directions at once, eyelids still heavy with sleep, shoulders slumped forward with the kind of lazy posture his mom had been trying to correct since middle school. He looked like someone who had just been dragged out of a very comfortable dream.
But that wasn't the part that bothered him.
Because underneath all of that, underneath the mess of it, there was something else sitting in his reflection that he couldn't ignore no matter how many times he tried. His hazel eyes were too bright, his lashes too long, his skin too clear, too warm, too glowing. The moles scattered across his face and neck and collarbones that he'd been self conscious about as a kid had somehow become another thing that made him look exactly like what he was. Soft. Pretty. Luminous in a way that had nothing to do with good genes and everything to do with designation.
Omega skin. Everyone always said it like it was a compliment.

The first time Will felt that something was seriously wrong with him, he did what he thought was best, which is absolutely nothing. It was hands-down the worst decision he’d ever made, and considering how his life turned out, that was saying something.
If he’d just opened his mouth, said something—anything—it might’ve saved him from being possessed for the next year and a half.

Summary
"I just need you to know," Will says quietly, and he makes himself hold Mike's gaze, "that if something happens - if I hurt you, or anyone else - it's not because I wanted to. I would never want to hurt you, Mike. Never."
The words hang between them, loaded with more meaning than Will intended.
There's a pause where all Will can hear is their breathing echoing against the storage closet's walls. The hum is more distant now, buzzing in the back of Will's mind, but the uneven inhales coming from in front of him sound louder. The breath tickling his nose (because they really are that close) feels realer.
Mike's eyes are still darting across Will's face, and Will can feel him inhale sharply. "Will, why are you so convinced you're going to hurt someone? What did Vecna show you?"
Everything, Will thinks. He showed me everything. Showed me killing you over and over until I couldn't see anything else.
Somewhere between slaying interdimensional eldritch horrors, exploding an entire dimension, and risking their lives countless times, Mike and Will find each other.
