Summary
Five had always understood, in an abstract sort of way, why she might be attractive to someone else. Pretty like something poisonous; compelling like the urge to put your hand through a naked flame to test whether it’s as hot as you think it might be. But she’d been a thorn in his side more than anything, irritating one another through mere proximity, and at no point had he contemplated anything ever happening between them. Neither the desire nor the opportunity had ever presented themselves in earnest.
That was then, though, and this is now: the heart wants what it wants, as the saying goes, and Five wants with a whole lot more of him than that.

Summary
"Even before stepping on the subway, we’d always been drawn together, starting from the same page when we would need to wait for his siblings to catch up. Five’s time in the Commission had sharpened him into a more dangerous weapon than his siblings, as it had done for me, and his intellect is the only one in the family that could match mine. Our time working for the Commission gave us similar ways of solving problems, but we were different enough to bounce off each other’s ideas. I guess it just makes sense why we had always gravitated to one another. After the proximity all these years, we’ve only become closer... too close maybe."
Year 4 of Five and Lila being lost in the subway as they wrestle with their feelings and changing dynamics in true chaos junkie form.
Their journey takes them traversing multiple timelines, being exposed to the dangers, and stumbling into something unexpected that resonates with them both.

At first, Lila was a poor excuse for a companion. She was mad at her own foolhardy plan. She was mad at Five. She was furious that her children were off somewhere growing up without her, or maybe not. He still wasn't sure how this whole doom subway system worked.
They fought. He liked fighting with Lila. It was about the only thing he did like about her. But even that grew stale by the end of the first year when the people topside were clearly very game to kill them, too.
It was not quite friends. Maybe allies.
He hated Lila. Mirrors always made you hate what you see.

Otherwise known as Lila and Five might be terrible at romance and feelings, but they excel at survival.
