Little does he know, the missing Iudex Neuvillette is a lot closer to him than he realizes.
(All he has to do is look closer at the fluffy otter creature currently curled against his chest, shamelessly using his pecs as his pillow.)

Summary
San zips back the bag of food and is about to put it to the side to fill the water bowl now when he feels something soft bumping against his hand. He whips his head back to the bowls and realizes the cat is actually touching his hand right now. San freezes, too scared to even move the hand, simply watching as the feline nuzzles into the back of his palm and leans into it so much San can soon feel the soft fur against his wrist as well.
He wants to pet the cat so badly, but just watching it rub itself against his hand is so heart-warming, San believes he’s doing this whole ‘trust the process’ thing right. He very slowly rotates his hand until it’s palm up, observing as the kitty now nuzzles its cute little head into his sweaty palm, eyes closed and oh my fucking fuck, it’s purring.

Six months ago Shadow the Hedgehog died. Maddie hadn’t known much about this other hedgehog besides his allegiance to the Robotniks and his assault on Tom, so she was a little hesitant when Sonic insisted on having a symbolic funeral for him. Her son, almost to tears, explained Shadow’s history, his friend Maria, his change of heart, and his eventual sacrifice to save Earth. Maddie realized, much like her own sons, that Shadow was a kid who hurt a lot. But unlike her boys, he had no proper guidance, no place to call home, and no one to love him unconditionally. They held the funeral in their background and Sonic performed the eulogy, even though he only learned about the word ten minutes before. Maddie was proud of her sons’ empathy and maturity—even Knuckles refrained from punching anything unnecessarily.
Five months ago gifts began showing up on their doorstep.

It is easy to imagine, the two of them passing out presents to the children at the fete. Wriothesley handing him a box, Neuvillette’s fingers brushing against his as he accepts the box. Their eyes meeting across the top of the present. A charged, knowing moment passing between them. And then, later, Wriothesley might pull Neuvillette aside, might confess to him that his heart is too full in the way the Neuvillette’s is, and Neuvillette might, at last, have someone to love and be loved by on the Solstice.
How wonderful that might be.
What a shame it must remain a fantasy.
Neuvillette finds himself trapped in a time loop on the eve of the midwinter solstice.

Which means he doesn’t hear the key in the lock of the front door. He doesn’t hear the low murmur of voices on the other side as it unlocks. He doesn’t hear anything until the front door swings open and he finally recognizes that there’s something else that’s happening other than his dick pressing against Kaveh’s.
He doesn’t break their kiss. His eyes fly open to see Ratio and Alhaitham standing in the doorway, utter shock on their faces as they notice the scene on their living room couch. They’re frozen, wide eyes and mouths slightly agape as they try to process what’s happening. Aventurine’s gaze darts instinctively to Ratio’s face, finding that Ratio is staring right back at him. And Aventurine, cocky and drunk, smiles against Kaveh’s lips when he sees Ratio swallow hard.
“What the fuck?” Alhaitham finally says.
or: Ratio and Alhaitham walk in on their roommates, Aventurine and Kaveh, making out and it awakens some unresolved sexual tension.

“You’re going to catch… whatever this is. It’s the better choice to just go to work like normal and leave me alone to let it run its course.”
Kaveh scoffed. “Well, that’s just heartless. Would you have left me like this?”
