“How can we help her?” asked Din. “She's been crying almost incessantly since we found her.”
The doctor blinked, eyebrows knitting up. “She's not crying now.”
“She stops when Cara holds her. Perhaps she reminds her of her mother?”
Cara groaned inwardly. Having lady parts wasn't enough to make you a mother, but how could that be explained to a baby? The doctor was a woman, too, and there were plenty of other women out there, it wouldn't be that hard to find this child a family, would it? Cara wasn't comfortable holding something so soft and fragile and couldn't wait to switch back to her sturdy rifle.
Doctor Manhan, however, was still watching her and the baby with unmistakable scientific interest.
“Fascinating.”
“What?” Cara asked impatiently. She didn't like the way the woman was staring at her.
Doctor Manhan's lips spread into a smile as her eyes flickered from Cara to Din and back in a way Cara didn't like. At all.
“Are you familiar with the phenomenon of imprinting?”[ In which our favourite Space Idiots™ work together, live together, fall in love, become a couple, make things official, and adopt children... not exactly in this order. ]

Zuko does not notice when the Water Tribe girl first stirs. She is staring at his face — his scar — but strangely it is only when he faces her head-on that she is afraid.
She is the first person who ever flinches at his right side instead of his left.
He begins his interrogation at once. Uncle has dozed off, thankfully. If he knew she was awake, he would slow things down by offering tea. Still, Zuko is not a total barbarian. He thrusts the lukewarm tea in the girl’s direction. She looks around wildly, no doubt disoriented by her surroundings and Zuko presses his advantage.
“Where is the Avatar?”
A canon-divergent tale: Katara must protect the newly-found Avatar from a Fire Nation Prince, although he is not quite who she expected. But Katara has plenty of secrets of her own...
