"Are you my friend, Dr. Shade?"
He's quiet again. That's all the answer she needs, and yet he still lies.
"I try not to be."

Wanda has a habit of latching onto strangers and following them home. Her obsession problem has landed her in court-ordered therapy.
Sitting in a room with a polite and forbidden older man every week for seven months should clear that right up.

“What’s your name?” she asks.
He opens the door wider in reply.
Wanda doesn’t move.
The man bends to root through a cupboard instead.
“I don’t have anything in,” he reaches into the shelves, half of him disappearing inside, “Not much to offer you in the way of hospitality.”
“Yeah,” she studies him, rubbing her fingers together. “Ghosts don’t drink, do they.”
A bottle of cheap liquor. He tosses it a bit in his hand, turning it, inspecting it, grinning at the label.
“Think I’m a ghost, do you?”

Following a sudden appearance of a strange red power, Wanda begins killing men to take the edge off. Her first kill in London doesn't go as she'd hoped.

“So, let’s say you’re an angel,” he pants. “Why’d you jump on my car?”
“I didn’t know you’d be in a car.”
“But mine!”
“Because you’re who I’m for.” Wanda smooths down his shirt. “And because you are more likely to be hit by a car than others.”
He opens his mouth to disagree, but he bites the air and drops his chin, shaking his head at the street. “I should have never told you that.”
“I’ve come to protect you.” She smiles. “For your lifetime.”
“From… cars,” he says slowly, like that isn’t enough.
“From everything.”

It is hard to protect a human that has been predisposed to death and disaster, but even harder to understand why there seem to be so many of him.

Summary
Wanda is an insane person, she has decided.
This plan she has developed, this stage that she sets, is very fragile. It is dependent on a precise order of events. And, even more difficult to predict, the handsome man next door would have to be just as insane.
Of course, if he isn’t, that will be fine. If he’s sane, he’ll close the blinds. No harm done.
Wanda is an insane person who cannot close her blinds.
Well, she’s doing a considerable bit more than not closing the blinds.
