I LOVE this. Short but incredibly effective alternative scene where Vincent talks to Shanumi (with Thomas present). I wish this was how it went in the book/film - would not have changed anything in terms of the plot or emotional arcs, but would have granted Shanumi much more dignity and showcased some of Vincent's practical skills/values.

Twin bangers! (Two fics posted at the time of bookmarking, but I am confident that if more join them, they will also be bangers.)
Both fics are self-contained and complete - an AU and then an AU of an AU - but they are SO GOOD in conversation with each other. Really exploring and poking at this concept from different angles in a way that gives a more complete and complex picture than either would alone.

Vincent tried on and discarded four separate teasing comments about it, but didn’t get to decide on one before Thomas silently handed them over, and he realized they were newspapers, opened and refolded over the weekly comics, his favorite. Three of them, one for each week he’d been away.
Ah, he thought, with the feeling of a sudden hard deceleration in his chest, the press it put on his heart. Ah. All right then.
