Summary
When David finally opens his front door, Patrick Brewer is leaning against the entryway wall, arms crossed and foot tapping against the floor, clad in a pair of very tight Levi's and the ugliest puffer jacket that David has ever seen. The fashion disaster, however, can't hide how attractive Patrick is—broad shoulders, thick thighs, and a couple of stray curls peaking out of the toque crammed on his head all take David by surprise. Even the whiskey-brown eyes are gorgeous, despite the way they're narrowed in David's direction.
David is a celebrity stylist, tasked with styling up and coming indie musician Patrick Brewer, but a freak snowstorm traps them together.

Summary
The boots land heavy on the floor in Stede’s peripheral vision.
They’re in awful shape, really quite embarrassing. Watermarks leave unsightly stains on the uppers and they’re scuffed up all over, and the silver hardware is so tarnished it’s almost as black as the leather. The right boot has a quarter-inch gouge so deep that Stede can’t begin to imagine how it got there, with only a half-hearted attempt made to treat it by rubbing in a little polish.
Such poorly-maintained leather in a place like Blackbeard’s is a rare thing; it’s almost a novelty, how frankly shitty they look.

Or: Stede Bonnet, the world’s bitchiest bootblack, is absolutely not going to waste his time on Ed's shitty boots or his shitty attitude, thank you very much. Nope. Definitely not.

Stede has a wife and kids at home and not a lot of will to leave.

For good friends, sure, and Ed was the best friend he’d ever had, probably, but this wasn’t just to catch up or shoot the shit— this was because they missed each other, missed the cozy little bubble of intimacy they’d built up over the months, missed making the other laugh and then moan in the same breath. This was something new.

Ed smirked again, his brown eyes full of so much mischief that it made Stede feel a little guilty himself. “Now and then,” he replied, and Stede thought his heart might beat out of his chest as Ed maintained eye contact through a drink of his beer.
“Is that why you were looking for me?” he asked, mouth dry despite the drink in his hand. “Looking for trouble?”
“Wouldn’t be opposed,” he answered casually, absently running a finger around the rim of his can. “Are you looking to get into a little trouble?”
Without thinking, Stede opened the top two snaps on his shirt, the collar suddenly stifling. “I think I might be,” he admitted.
