Phil Callahan has made a large variety of strange arrests in his time working as a cop for Hawkins, Indiana. Daylight skinny-dippers; a small group of old ladies who’d attempted to rob the corner shop with their umbrellas, a guy who’d stolen a total of eighteen gnomes from his suburban neighborhood.
But pulling over Max Mayfield driving her brother’s Camaro at the ripe age of thirteen was pretty insane. Sure, kids will be kids and kids will be crazy. Until Steve Harrington crawled out of the backseat, clutched his knees and horror-movie hurled blood all over his boots and shit got crazier.
That took it from a minor concern to oh, fuck. Callahan has to take this kid to a hospital.

“Why are you sorry, love?” Eddie coos.
“Keep…fallin’ asleep,” Steve slurs.
“Oh, Stevie, it’s okay,” Eddie says, petting the uninjured side of Steve’s face at a stoplight.
Thinking, as he says it, of how he and Steve had only just put a name to what they were doing--only just said aloud that no, holding hands and sleeping in each other’s beds and calming each other down after nightmares and helping each other dress wounds, wash hair, do PT, wasn’t strictly platonic. (With a capital P.)
They’ve never even seen each other naked. Not like that, anyway. And even what they had right now, even how new and beautiful it was, was enough to get Steve kicked out of his own home.
“‘ve been ‘re before,” Steve says as Eddie takes the turn into the hospital parking lot a little too quickly.
“The hospital?”
“Concussed, stuck with a reckless driver,” Steve says, and he giggles a little before wincing, and the sound makes Eddie just a little less afraid.

It’s a little unfair, really.
After the copious amount of concussions he’s had, Steve Harrington feels figuring out complex mysteries should be left to other members of the party. But he can’t help noticing these little oddities - that the name Eddie calls himself and the name on his medical file are different, that Eddie has a book full of sketches of Nancy Wheeler that he keeps like a closely guarded secret. Or the fact that as he spends time with him, helping him through recovery, Steve can feel himself falling for Eddie Munson, despite historically being very heterosexual.
Steve’s stubborn, though, and determined. If no one’s going to tell him what’s going on - well, he’ll just have to fuck around and find out.

Bumped to the lowest step on the social ladder after his fight with Billy, Steve gets roped in with the cheer team. What starts as a favor to help them out when one member breaks her leg in turn for protection from the brunt of the bullying, sets the universe on a different path.
He befriends Chrissy and grows as thick as thieves with her. Over the summer he adds Robin to his friends as well. Meanwhile Eddie seems to have taken an interest in the fallen king, but Steve can’t figure out quite yet why Eddie is talking with him. Flirting with him?
AKA a rewrite from after season 2 till after season 4 where Chrissy survives and Steve and Eddie get together that explores Steve's fall to the bottom of the social ladder and the what if he was gay and knew.

Now, Steve is glad he’s not dead, don’t get him wrong.
But holy shit, does it feel like he should be.
It sounds like he should be, listening to the doctor rattle off his list of injuries and the care necessary to prevent complications. Cracked orbital bone, broken nose, concussion, broken rib – it really sells the story that he’d been hit with falling rubble during the fire, because how else would someone accumulate that many injuries? Interrogation and torture?
