Summary
Tighnari is a veteran Forest Ranger living in the Avidya Forest with his young daughter, Collei. He seeks a cure for Collei’s condition, an illness called Eleazar, and his everyday actions reflect such. Although he works himself to the bone, he can't make any more progress than the doctors in Sumeru City can.
Upon catching wind of a particularly serious case of The Withering, Tighnari ventures deep into the jungles of Sumeru hoping that it might provide a solution to Collei's illness. What he doesn't expect is to be ambushed by mercenaries who steal his Withering sample and research. As he lies on the brink of life and death, a mysterious figure swoops in and fells his assailants.
The next thing Tighnari remembers is waking up in a cool, adobe room to the sound of boiling water and scent of braised meat as a stranger with striking ruby eyes and hair like shimmering moonlight silently watches over him.
Smoke Curls Like Ribbons is a story of love tended to like the embers of a warm fire. As Tighnari and Cyno come to know one another intimately, they must choose: will their fire burn brighter, or will it fade into hushed whispers, leaving only curling smoke behind?

The peace came soft and blissful but anyone who kept aware could tell that it was only a lull. The might of Hermanubis was a temptation the Doctor found no qualm in reaching for when the body guarding it was merely human. The plan was simple, falling into place right on its own, because what a wonderful coincidence it was that Hermanubis once ruled over the Tighnarians and that the body hosting Hermanubis' spirit was in love with a Tighnarian descendant?
Hermanubis wouldn't harm a Valuka Shuna, surely. Cyno no doubt would never willingly harm Tighnari. Humans and deities alike were simple creatures, and like that Dottore ordered the first spark.

"I’m well-aware...what was the bet again?" Sethos inquired, already knowing the answer but hoped Cyno might’ve forgotten about it.
Cyno's smirk grew a bit wider, almost mocking. "If I win, you'll fight me....and a friend. Physical combat." He answered.
"Physical combat? And I assume it'll be just a friendly sparring session, right?"
“In your bed.”
Or, Sethos and Cyno makes a bet with eachother, Sethos thinks he has a lead on the bet but is ultimately proven wrong when he allows Cyno to choose what game they should play.

Summary
Valuka Shuna mated for life. It was romantic in theory. In practice, there were many horror stories about Valuka Shuna who fell in love with imposters, criminals, etc and were left to spend the rest of their days heart broken and alone. After all, Valuka Shuna were rare. Most ended up falling for humans and the humans were not bound to this life long mating cycle.
Tighnari was practical. When he heard the horror stories of cousins going through despair due to being separated from someone who should have been a lifelong partner, he decided he didn’t need it. He didn’t need the distraction. He didn’t need the anxiety that a human would easily walk away from him while he was left to carry the coffin of their love on his back. He didn’t need the headache of trying to find someone who may only betray him.
His father would tell him, “Tighnari, you’ll be fine as long as you don’t rush it. Don’t make yourself fall in love just to be with someone like others. When you find someone who is really your person, you’ll know.”
When Tighnari meets Cyno, he has no doubt that he is the most beautiful person he will ever see but refuses to fall easily when Cyno doesn't even realize he would need to offer him forever.
