Victoria opens her eyes and is met with the second worst scenario, in a moment like this.
"Ah. Well, sorry about this." Dr. Jack Abbot, Emergency Medicine Attending at PTMC, grips at the doorway, blinks once, and then remembers to turn away. "Don't let me interrupt."

Spencer takes Hotch’s hand in his own and brings it across the space between them to rest over his knees, cradled in both of his hands like something precious. Hotch doesn’t object, silently watching Spencer’s movements with a wary tilt of his head.
“Do you always change parts of yourself to manage other’s perceptions?” The question trips past Spencer's lips before he can think better of it.
Hotch tenses, his hand clenching and unclenching in Spencer’s hold like he wants to pull away from the conversation, from Spencer. His hand stays in place.
“Doesn’t everyone?” He asks quietly, and something about his tone makes Spencer look up for the first time since he started this bizarre interrogation.
Spencer almost doesn’t want to break it to him.
“No,” he says, looking back to the hand in his lap and lacing their fingers together for a selfish moment, a breath, “not everyone.”
AKA A night out with the team quickly devolves, and Spencer’s still dizzy trying to put it back together.

The words were out of his mouth before he’d even had the chance to process, and he nearly froze, not sure what possessed him to say such a thing. He opened his mouth, ready to do damage control, before—
Jayce barked out a laugh, loud and unrestrained.
“Yeah, well. Sorry for worrying about my partner.” Even through the faint sarcasm of the statement, the words were suffused with such fond, familiar warmth that Viktor felt his breath catch in his chest.
Partner?
Well. That certainly explained the touch. And the warmth in his voice. And the way Viktor leaned toward him instead of away— an innate response. This, at least, made sense now. Viktor had not dared to include this option as one of his preliminary hypotheses.
They were together. Dating. Whatever the most adequate term would be.
OR: Viktor gets amnesia, logically concludes he and Jayce are together, and starts running experiments to confirm it. Jayce is whipped. That's the fic.

Derek leaves the kitchen where he’s been trying to brainstorm with Prentiss and Gideon. He can’t face the looks on their faces anymore—the dwindling hope. He still has it; he has to have it. It’s not totally irrational—Tobias hasn’t come to kill Hotch yet. He probably won’t until he’s killed Spencer; he wouldn’t risk leaving his captive alive and alone. It’s cold comfort because if Spencer is still alive, then Spencer is still in pain, but it’s comfort, at least.
Derek’s taking one of Tobias’ bibles off the shelf before he even realises he’s doing it, opening it without knowing what he’s looking for. He only occasionally believes in God these days and trusts him even more infrequently, so he doubts he’s searching for comfort. Maybe somewhere deep down, the eight-year-old who hasn’t yet seen his father die is still alive and still believes, and still remembers that Genesis 23:4 is not about narcissism because that’s the verse he opens the book to, and his stomach drops to the floor.
OR: in which the team takes just a little too long to figure out the message spencer is leaving them in georgia. derek takes it poorly.
