Police officers, as is to be expected from people who have made a vocation out of other people's business, have a boundless appetite for gossip. The new lieutenant, the one whose arrival was already shrouded in myths - that he’s legally blind, that he’s served since the RCM’s inception, that he was brought over because Vicquemare refused to work with du Bois any more, that the 57th wanted rid of him because the 41st came off too well in the Martinaise case - arriving to the precinct visibly agitated, nearly an hour late and with no partner in sight on his second Monday after transfer is particularly ripe for speculation.
Kim's first case at the 41st is the disappearance of his partner. Luckily, Major Crimes has a junior officer who knows her way around a Searchlight case.
