I’ve imagined this moment so many times, scripted and rehearsed and re-played in my head exactly what I would say to you. Something noble and dignified, slightly enigmatic – teacups and time and the rules of disorder – in which I’m far more articulate than I ever am in real life, and that generally all conclude with an enormously unrealistic version of you that looks suitably abashed and respectfully hears me out before earnestly apologizing and begging for my forgiveness (which I eventually magnanimously bestow, and then we make out. Wait…what?).
And now you’re really here, really in front of me – God you really are – and all I manage to croak out is a singularly unimpressive: “Hannibal, what the actual fuck?”

At the Dursleys’, Harry heard that you can make up for sin by going to church and sitting in a dark box, tell a kindly old man what you’ve done wrong in hushed whispers, recite a prayer or two before bed once back at home.
This is not the kind of absolution he needs.
Harry imagines Voldemort as a phantom limb, one that he cuts off again and again and again in his mind, as many times as it takes until he stops thinking, until he can imagine the blood and the pain, pure and cathartic.
It does not work.

Like a balm the gentle comfort spread from his palm, up his arm and to his heart, filling his chest cavity and Voldemort finally breathed. He could just make out the fine outline of Harry’s face, but he didn’t dare move closer. Terror and excitement coursed through him, electric in their intensity. Just when he thought he knew all there was to know about the boy, he was thrown a wrench. Harry Potter was filled with peculiarities and Voldemort would learn them all.
