The first pose he’d taught you, when he’d taken you to the shooting range. Gentle hands around yours as he spoke softly in your ears on the best position to take, how to best read the target with your eyes. Your hands pantomime an exaggerated shooting gesture, gun jerking upward as you pretend to pull the trigger.
“Bam,” you say playfully, before blowing at the end of the gun like those old Western movies you used to watch together.
“Oh, and there she goes, a perfect shot.” Caleb puts a hand to his chest as though in pain, but his mouth is curled upward in an indulgent smile. “Wounded,” he sighs, “right in the heart.”
“Man down, man down,” you say in a sing-song voice as you circle him, and he puts his hands up in surrender.
