It’s Peter’s fault Uncle Ben died. He’d run off after a fight about Peter’s behavior at school and Ben went looking. Ben got shot by a mugger that he hadn’t stopped. Aunt May died because he’d been stupid. He’d been reckless, crossing into Manhattan as Spider-Man—hadn’t been close when the crash happened. If he’d been there, he’d have heard it. He’d have gotten May out. Things would’ve been okay.

Between not acting like a traditional alpha, to even just being a woman and an alpha in the first place, the one benefit of being alone in Space with only Rocky around, there was no one with secondary genders to judge her distinct lack of alpha-ness ever again. Hooray!

“Hey, sweetheart,” he replied. Thick arms wrapped around your waist, gently tugging you backwards. Your back, covered in water droplets, collided with Simon’s chest. A breathy laugh came from your widening smile.
“Impatient, are we?” you asked teasingly. Your question was met with Simon trailing his lips up and down your exposed neck. An occasional nip with his teeth here and there, scruffy beard scratching on your sensitive skin.
“You were taking too long,” Simon uttered as he nipped under your ear. Large, calloused hands began smoothing over your soaked skin. You shuddered against Simon, letting your head fall back against his broad shoulder.
“I’ve only been in the shower for ten minutes, Si,” you breathed. You felt a puff of air brush against your neck as he huffed. -

The sentence hangs alongside the rush of the shower, bouncing around the side of the tub. Bouncing around inside Ryland’s far too curious brain. Ryland sighs. “Why?”
