Jason jerks back as a metal pipe spears through the bottom of the vent a foot in front of his face, the end of it sharpened into a savage, jagged point. He stares at it for a long moment, dumbfounded, before it disappears back through the hole it made with a horrible shriek of metal on metal. The hole is about three inches wide, the edges bent up into sharp, uneven scraps.
Jason lost his helmet back when their earlier fight had gotten out of hand, and he’s suddenly vividly aware of how vulnerable his face is, how vulnerable his eyes are, and he can barely lift his head more than a couple of inches in this position – definitely not enough to be out of range. There’s a vague murmur coming from the goons down below, but Jason can’t make out the words through the buzz of panic in his ears. He’s a sitting duck if they realize someone’s up here.
He glances at Tim, who’s frozen, staring at Jason with mirrored shock.
Oh, fuck.

Summary
The look on Shane’s face, even blurry and partially obscured by smoke, confirms everything Ilya had been thinking. He can hear an awful, keening sound, and realises with a shock that it’s coming from him. And fuck, it only serves to make Shane’s face crumple even more.
I have never been in a plane crash. A singular plane malfunction, in anyone’s lifetime, even someone who flies as much as him, is an anomaly. Two? Two fucking crashes? Those odds aren’t even worth calculating. Almost impossible.
He can hear Sveta’s voice in his head, Russian, sweet and warm like the honey tea her mother used to make for him: You don’t need to tempt fate, Ilyusha, she already has such horrid plans for you.
Or: The Centaurs’ plane crashes. Again. Shane has to decide what’s worse— Almost dying, or actually surviving.

Summary
The week before the 2017 All-Stars Game, Ilya Rozanov is placed on IR. Ten days later, he disappears from the league entirely. Boston says nothing, and for once, a notoriously fickle league closes ranks.
Every attempt Shane makes to find him hits a wall. In one last desperate, life-altering bid to reach him, Shane comes out to the world, only to be met with Ilya’s silence.
By the time the 2020/21 season begins, Shane has nothing left but hockey and regret. He builds a dynasty, guts his life, and pins the last scraps of his hope on the Metros’ newest transfer, the dangerously hot-headed Cliff Marlow.
Stepping back into the public eye after the worst three years of his life, all Ilya wants is to find some kind of purpose. Shane is done with him, he made that much clear. Ilya isn't about to try to convince himself otherwise. He just wants to prove he still has some use left in him.
Fortunately for both of them, they're still fucking stupid for each other.

Bowker Overpass. Footage shows the vehicle veering suddenly off the overpass at high speeds, colliding with a nearby tree. The driver, male, approximately mid-to-late twenties, was injured and unresponsive when authorities arrived. Airbag w/out seatbelt deployed successfully. Driver was quickly transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment, there identified as Ilya Grigoryevich Rozanov. No other vehicles or pedestrians were involved in the collision.

INCREDIBLY good fic i love the relationships between ilya and shane and between ilya and sveta the way canon has been altered to fit the premise is soo seamless and natural and the flow and build of their relationship makes sense and coheres so nicely! and trans ilya is just sooo well done i love this take on how he presents when he’s in the closet it’s delicious AND shane’s grappling w the back to back sexuality crises is also soo interesting to me it’s like the shaneilya of it all is the backbone to everything so of course even if things aren’t matching up on the surface (im gay and he’s a woman) their connection is too powerful and it just powerwashes everything else away until they’re shane&ilya again <333
