Summary
Zuko had never excelled at anything. Azula was a prodigy. Uncle always knew what to say. And Father... Father was strong, iron-like. But Zuko had only ever been good at surviving. Putting one foot in front of the other in a grim show of stubborn determination, gritting his teeth and bearing it. Survival was all he had ever been taught. He knew how to do it. So when he was kidnapped by the Southern Water Tribe, he expected to fight as he always had. He didn’t expect to be taught instead how to live.
In a warring land, the Water Tribe forgave the enemy in an act of defiance. For this, he was torn from them, and this time, his wounds won't heal so easily.
Forced back into nothing but survival, the last person Zuko expected to see was Hakoda's son. Hakoda was a promise of safety. The relentless blue of Sokka’s eyes was a promise of happiness. Zuko could have both if he just reached out his hands, but he found them clutching into fists. After all, he’d been burned one too many times.
But hey, at least between Hakoda and Sokka, Zuko could appreciate the family resemblance of pure, asinine stubbornness.

Denki sighs. “Did anyone see that coming?” He asks. “Am I the only one confused, or did you guys all have Bakugou being good with kids on your bingo cards for this year?”
“He is not good with kids,” Midoriya says, a haunted look on his face. “Last week a child in our neighbourhood asked for his autograph and Kacchan told him that he wouldn’t go far in life if he kept on asking for handouts.”
or,
A quirk de-ages Kirishima. Bakugou handles it surprisingly well.

Summary
He didn’t look up from his desk as he simpered, “You losers have no chance of becoming heroes.”
And despite him not raising his voice above the socially acceptable amount, the class fell dead silent at his comment. Every single pair of eyes shot daggers into his soul, and goddamn him he wanted to shrink.
A beat.
Two.
Then, “And you think you can be one, cripple?”
Or: Katsuki is thrown to the bottom of the societal barrel because he's paralyzed, but he won't stop at anything to prove them wrong. That includes becoming the Number One Hero.

Summary
Zuko woke and immediately realized what had happened. Sokka was still snuggled close to him underneath the pelts. Thank Agni he woke with the sunrise, he should still have time to get back to his ship before anyone-
The flap of Sokka's tent opened with a snap.
“Sokka, are you-” Hakoda stepped inside and looked straight at Zuko, modesty barely maintained beneath the pelts and lying damningly close to the Chief's son. Sokka stirred at the commotion and blearily lifted his head. “Huh? Dad?!”
Zuko moved his body to block Sokka from his father's view. If one of them was to be struck, or dragged out by their hair to kneel naked in the snow in front of the whole tribe, shame on display, Zuko would rather it was himself.
Hakoda walks in on his son after a night of pleasant company with the Fire Lord, his biggest question is simply why Sokka would hide something like this from him.
Zuko, raised in a country where their relationship is punishable by death, deals with the fallout.

Hakoda’s not sure exactly what's going on with the Fire Lord’s son, but given the way he avoids Hakoda with a passion and jumps every time he hears him speak, Hakoda doesn’t like the picture that's being painted.

Summary
Katara raised an eyebrow as she too stood up, brushing sand off her tunic.
“Zuko? Voluntarily feeding Appa? This I gotta see.”
Or,
how the Gaang accidentally eavesdrops on Zuko’s therapy session with Appa (this goes about as well as expected) -

Summary
“It’s healing really well.” Katara tells him with a smile, before her lips quirk down into a frown. “Though it’ll still scar pretty bad.”
Zuko shrugs. “It’s ok. I doubt people will really focus on it anyway… the one on my face is a bit more prominent.”
Katara makes a face, like she’s not quite sure if she should laugh or frown, when Toph speaks up.
“You have a scar on your face?” Toph asks, sitting up so she’s sitting by his legs rather than lying on them.
Zuko blinks. He never quite forgets that Toph is blind, but the fact that she can’t see his scar never really occurred to him.
“Oh, yeah.” Zuko looks down at his lap. “My father burned like, half my face off before I was banished.” He says it a little too casually, probably not bitterly enough.
A crash next to him makes him look up, to see Katara's horrified expression, and a shattered bowl of water at her feet.
No one says anything for a long moment.
“Zuko… it- your dad?” Katara finally manages to gasp out. Zuko blinks at her, his brain moving slowly.
“You didn’t know?” He asks in genuine surprise.
“No.” Sokka wheezes.
Zuko blinks at him. “Oh.” Is all he can manage to say.

“I think he’s sick.” Bato says flatly. “So unless you want the next meeting to include the Fire Lord puking all over the budget scrolls, maybe see if he's okay?”
Hakoda glances up the hallway, like perhaps Katara will appear and take over dealing with the prickly teenager. Of course, his daughter is off treating injured refugees with the Avatar, and Bato is still staring at him expectantly, arms crossed.
“Fine,” He sighs, and he claps Bato on the cheek before heading into the room.
Or: Zuko falls ill not long after Ozai's defeat. Hakoda sits with him and learns some unpleasant truths about his childhood.

Summary
Hakoda just wants to destroy the Fire Navy, is that so much to ask?
Apparently yes, as his second in command drags in a net containing one half drowned fire prince with a severe brain injury. He can't justify tossing him back like the crew wants, so he will just keep him prisoner until they make it to port and then he's the Earth Kingdom's problem.
(Does it count as imprisonment if he's allowed to run around the ship as he pleases?)Hakoda and the crew slowly adopt a brain damaged fire prince. Just another day at sea.

"Izuku," he starts. "Don't tell me you didn't know that I was gay."
"Well. Well— you never told me?"
"Christ on a bike," Katsuki mutters. "You're hopeless."
"How was I supposed to know?!"
"Idiot." Katsuki holds up his wrist and points to the one wristband he made fireproof so that he could always wear it: "Tell me the colors of this wristband."
"Red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. It's..." Izuku sounds confused— and then: "Oh my God, it's a rainbow."
"You're by far the stupidest fucking—"
or
Izuku has a few questions. Bakugou answers them to the best of his ability, and in the process they talk about swole chihuahuas, elephant tranquilizers and what it means to be a young queer person.
