The only thing that truly surprised him was that Julian had asked, or rather, that he hadn’t simply written that he needed an annulment and had taken the liberty of filling out his half of the requisite form, and was just sending it over to be completed. Instead: “I think we should get a divorce.” As if it were a suggestion; as if it would be perfectly acceptable for Garak to refuse.

At the end of the Dominion War, Elim Garak and Julian Bashir were married in order for the doctor to immediately begin helping with Cardassia’s recovery. Now, after several years spent apart, Julian has apparently met someone else and is looking for a divorce, a good enough excuse to get him back to Prime for one last visit… but Garak finds himself at something of a loss for how to deal with the strange distance Julian brings with him.

In the immediate aftermath of the Nope-Let's-Notpocalypse, Crowley and Aziraphale tentatively begin to move on, hoping Heaven and Hell will leave them alone in the wake of both of their failed trials.
Of course, nothing could possibly be that simple.
It isn't that Gabriel or Beelzebub have actually figured out how the trials were subverted...but boy, do they THINK they have it figured out. Thankfully, it won't take much to keep them in the dark.
(Crowley and Aziraphale just have to spend eternity together, pretending to be in love with each other. All Crowley needs to do is make sure Aziraphale never finds out that everything he's saying and doing is true.)

Summary
Going into shed on a guls-forsaken starbase with a lot of strange Federaji and very few options was never going to be pleasant, Garak knew. But it might not have been quite so bad if Julian hadn't completely forgotten it was coming and left a week ago on the Defiant. Garak, of course, hadn't said a word. It was wartime, after all. There was nothing to be done.
And yet, he couldn’t help but see it as one more sign that Julian was slipping away from him.

Over months, a mission for survival and a need to share body heat on chilly nights evolves into comfortable domesticity, with physical contact given and received whenever craved. There were an awful lot of preparations, and I took the liberty of packing up some of the things you left in your shop. They’ve been in a cargo bay, so I can’t vouch for the condition of them, but I thought it was a shame for all that fine artistry to go to waste. I think this should reach you in plenty of time to get a response back before I leave, so do let me know if there’s anything specific you’d like me to retrieve for you. A data rod in the bulkhead, perhaps? I might even eat it, if you ask very nicely!
