Summary
“Other times,” Hans says, speaking around it, around lips touching and hands brushing and other places, other parts, “I let us. You follow my lead.”
“Yes,” Henry says. “I did. I do. And that makes it… alright.” Around again, around the line. Words spilling past his lips almost as though he was waiting for permission. “Because if you… if you tell me to, then I could give it to you. But if you don’t, then…” he trails again, glancing down as Hans touches his ankle, a brush of his fingers, barely a touch at all.
In different rooms, behind closed doors, under flickering candlelight, on either side of the line between them that they have the power to let each other cross, Henry and Hans stay firmly in their places.

Summary
Odysseus looks back up at the stars and says, “I’ve wanted to kill that bastard for a while. Thanks for your help,” and Diomedes says, “Any time,” and Odysseus gives him a smile, a real smile, one that makes the corners of his eyes crinkle, and warmth strikes and spreads in Diomedes’s chest like he’s being stabbed.
A body sinks into the sea. Diomedes’s hands are clean now, washed by the salt water. The boat rocks gently against the waves, white with moon and starlight. It’s almost romantic. Whatever that means.
There is a killing in the Greek camp, and two men hide from accusations and each other. This is a love story.

Summary
“You don’t say please. You don’t.”
“Please,” he says again, and drags out each letter, and Henry should oblige, but his own body is pliant in Hans’s presence, like water, or clay.
Strange, flipped, subverted, this hesitation. Outside of this room, Henry has no hesitation when it comes to Hans. Out there in the world, his golden pourpoint covers the marks Henry leaves on him, hiding these blemishes against his unquestionable authority. Inside, naked, nowhere to hide. Uneasy equals. And one always trying to capitulate to the other.

Summary
“I did notice that you’ve kept yourself just the same as before.”
Hans turns his head to show his profile. In the dim candlelight, the slope of his nose is prominent, and so is the familiar pout. “And I’ve noticed that you’ve changed your… appearance quite a lot.” His tone is one of forced calm. There is something else he’s noticed, but won’t mention, not here. Not now.
With the same inflection, Henry says, “I’ve noticed you noticing.”
In the arena, at the dice table, in the baths, in bedrooms, Henry, Hans, and Bartosch notice things about each other.

Summary
The water is calm, reflecting her easily, a vision of a ghost, a warrior, a scared little girl, a liar and a murderer, and other things she hasn’t yet given a name, hasn’t dared look at too closely. Fighting, blood, bruises, aimless violence taking aim. Spying and subterfuge. This is what Radzig wants, and what she has to do to get what she wants. The only thing that matters. Revenge at any cost. Her father’s sword. It is the only thing. Isn’t it?
His face flashes to the forefront of her mind, blue eyes, golden hair, matching the gold of his beautiful pourpoint, and she thinks of something other than the blood and the violence. Something a little softer. Something slightly more real.
A girl dies in the ashes of Skalitz. Something else rises in her place.

Summary
"Then s'pose I was mistaken for your wife," Henry swallows, every word a rock, difficult in it's truth, "and you had me in your bed."
Hans manages to collect the half-baked thought, form it before he can regret it. "I'd perform my duties as a lord should, of course."
"'n one of your duties as a lord— as my lord— " and Henry has to bite down a smile at Hans' groan, the sound of him already lost, "is to provide heirs, ain't it?"
"The most important one, I'd say." A touch so soft he could've imagined it, a palm lightly cupping his stomach. Henry relaxes his body. "And I am, above all," small circles above his navel, petting, "ever so dutiful."
