In Vegas, after they’d said everything right up to the edge of I love you, Shane and Ilya came up with a plan. It was long term, with many, many steps. There might be a spreadsheet somewhere that Shane won’t admit to.
But it’s a plan, nonetheless. Over the summer of 2014, they tweak it and add things important to the both of them. There are even many, extensive, contingency plans.

Even though Shane couldn’t hear the exact words, he knew what Ilya said. He shook his head.
“Unlock the door, or I will break the glass. Your choice.”
Shane’s eyes widened again and he briefly hung his head as if regretting all of his past life decisions, and Ilya heard the resounding click of the unlock mechanism.
He felt wild, his mind in violent turmoil as he threw open the door and his palm clutched the back of Shane’s head, his fingers finding purchase in the coarse hair. “Are you listening to me?” Shane ducked his head in acknowledgment. “I’m going to call off my driver. You will not move. I am going to sit there-“ he pointed at the empty passenger seat. “-in this boring car of yours and I am going to find out why the fuck you are alone and who the fuck made you cry.”

Inspired by Shane’s confession in The Long Game (*mini-spoiler*) about his whereabouts after leaving a certain Montreal nightclub in January 2017, Ilya leaves the club shortly after Shane only to find him pulled over on the side of the road, devastated.

A bright yellow canvas canopy extended out over the doorway, yellow dags embroidered alternately with a single white flower and a steaming mug. Hanging lights in a dull orange color flickered to life as Spock approached, the photocells reacting to the evening’s fading light and giving the storefront a hazy glow, likely meant to evoke a sense of coziness and comfort in its patrons. White lettering on the front window with excessive curling in the font declared this to be the Lazy Daisy Cafe.

Summary
He exhales a shaky breath and then checks his watch; the train is running late, and the later it gets, the more the anxiety builds at the base of Patrick’s spine. The more his brain whispers this is a bad idea, asks is this really something you’re ready to know? He tries to distract himself by observing the myriad of other people waiting—an older, heavy-set couple wearing matching t-shirts, a large group of loud teenagers with seriously abrasive accents, a distinctly European trio of men arguing in what sounds like German. He assumes they’re mostly tourists; he is, after all, staying near Times Square, and he’s pretty sure any self-respecting New Yorker avoids this particular station at all costs. It’s not like he was dying to eat at a New York City TGI Friday’s himself, but the hotels really did seem to be the best bang for his buck.
The distant whir of the oncoming train sparks him out of contemplating subpar American food, and he swallows, mouth dry, feeling more like a man on his way to a sentencing hearing than a college graduate on a solo vacation, going to a bar for a drink.
It’s just a bar. It’s just a drink.
A handsome stranger falls asleep on Patrick on the subway. Alt meet.

Summary
It wasn’t that Patrick wasn’t happy or grateful. It was just that he thought his life in New York would be so much more exciting. It was different than his life back home for sure, but it was still bland. Still predictable. He had changed all of his surroundings but somehow, his life was carrying on as if he was still living in rural Ontario.
At least, it was until the day the angel walked through the doors.
Oh and angel? That wasn’t so much of an exaggeration as one would think. Because peeking out of his huge, stylish shoulder bag was what appeared to be a black, feathered wing.

Since no one is pressing him for information, David will be quick to admit, even just to himself, that he flips out a tad bit the first time it happens. He can’t really be blamed, because pseudo-time-travel via dreams isn’t quite the course one expects their life to take, so he believes he’s warranted the “What the fuck?” and literal double takes as he stands outside of the motel in the pajamas he fell asleep in, his sleep joggers and one of Patrick’s bird shirts.

But something on his latest case just wasn't adding up. He couldn't think clearly. If only he could keep his mind off the arrogant suspect whose dark eyes and lithe body kept invading his thoughts.
David Rose just needs to keep the press out of his business for the next few months, but when the death of his dear friend and occasional lover brings Detective Brewer sticking his nose into his business, well he is going to have to do whatever he can to keep him at arms length.

He’s quitting. This is, in fact, his last job.
At least it's an easy shoot - a puff piece on some up-and-coming Canadian singer-songwriter on the indie circuit who's just been catapaulted to widespread fame. No complications, no controversy. He'll be in his apartment and wallowing in his bamboo-silk sheets before he knows it.

He’d needed a change of scene. Desperately. And while the location wasn’t exactly a dream come true, Patrick pinched himself on the daily that he – a little business major from butt-fuck-nowhere Canada – was going to be the new assistant to The Johnny Rose of Rose Video.
It became clear quite quickly, though, that with Johnny came everyone else, and Patrick had most decidedly not been prepared to deal with his boss’s kids - especially when they were twenty-something socialites in their own right.
