When Jimmy came out, he looked shell-shocked as a soldier, his uniform and shirt blooming with red as the pungent smell of burned flesh coated him like a heavy blanket.

GENUINELY SUCH A GOOD AND FUN READ, definitely found myself relating way too heavily to Laios’ inner dialogue. this is so well written and such a nice deep dive into the characters and how they function in their group. It honestly feels just so hopeful reading this, to see these characters confide in each other like this. I honestly don’t have all the words right now to explain just how much I adored reading this but god such a good read, will definitely reread it again soon !!!

Summary
Branch wasn’t as tactile compared to other trolls. Far from it. Touch was something he was still relatively new to, and it was something he seldom initiated himself. Despite that, it didn’t stop those around him to come to his side, sneaking in gentle touches whenever they could, all while respecting his boundaries and not pushing too much. It became a silent game, of who could hold him, ruffle his hair and just hang around him the longest until he’d eventually push them away without any real bite.

It's been many, many years since the other members of BroZone have spent any real time with Branch. It was easy, in the beginning, to forget that Branch wasn't the same toddler they'd left behind for their grandma to raise. Now that they were staying with Branch for a while it was becoming increasingly clear that Branch had grown in a lot of different ways since they were kids. He was standoffish and neurotic and rough around the edges but it was blatantly obvious that he cared a lot more than he wanted them to know.
They wanted him to know that they cared too.

Branch set his coffee down to wring his hands together. “When Grandma was still around,” Branch trailed off for a moment before seemingly steeling himself with a deep breath, “Every afternoon we would pour out a new box and we wouldn’t leave until the last piece of the puzzle was placed.”
Floyd nodded. He hadn’t known Grandma Rosipuff had enjoyed puzzles so much.
“It helped me. I’m not sure if it’ll help you the way it helped me, but, I don’t know.” Branch shrugged. “I just thought I’d offer.”
Floyd felt his lips twitch into a wobbly smile. “I think I’d like that, Branch.”
