Poppy loves living in Locks Angeles with her big sister, Viva. They run a hole-in-the-wall musical coffee café together and it's been going strong for a couple of years. She was so glad she left Permsylvania to start a new life, everything has been great!

Branch lives a rather peaceful life, mostly focused on college. Not being a fan of social interaction or crowds, Branch keeps mostly to himself, the only common people in his life being his brothers. Poppy is a happy-go-lucky college student, and a huge fan of the boyband Brozone. Little does she know, the reserved boy she had decided to try and befriend is actually Brozone's secret younger brother.

"Well I'm not allowed to change!" There is a different kind of frustration tinting his voice, a desperation Poppy hasn't heard yet, "I'm the oldest, I had to be the leader!" JD keeps saying things like they're what they are and nothing more. He says things like they're obvious and everyone else is an idiot for not realizing it. Poppy understands him. Once upon a time, she was like that, too. She thought she knew the world better than anyone. She thought Branch was just being paranoid, she thought Bridget was just being sensitive, she thought that Barb was really just trying to be friends. She was wrong every time though.
JD hasn't learned that lesson. He thinks everything is the way it is no matter what. Poppy remembers how suffocating that view used to be for her. JD is choking himself. He doesn't know that he's not always right. He doesn't know that his role doesn't have to be determined like that, none of them do. He is allowed to change, to be himself. He doesn't know that and Poppy feels sorry for him because of it.
