Summary
Branch lives a rather peaceful life, mostly focused on college. Not being a fan of social interaction or crowds, Branch keeps mostly to himself, the only common people in his life being his brothers. That is, until a certain pink haired troll in his public speaking class decided to wiggle herself into his life after taking pity on his poor presentation skills.
Poppy is a happy-go-lucky college student, and a huge fan of the boyband Brozone. Little does she know, the reserved boy she had decided to try and befriend is actually Brozone's secret younger brother.

"Well I'm not allowed to change!" There is a different kind of frustration tinting his voice, a desperation Poppy hasn't heard yet, "I'm the oldest, I had to be the leader!" JD keeps saying things like they're what they are and nothing more. He says things like they're obvious and everyone else is an idiot for not realizing it. Poppy understands him. Once upon a time, she was like that, too. She thought she knew the world better than anyone. She thought Branch was just being paranoid, she thought Bridget was just being sensitive, she thought that Barb was really just trying to be friends. She was wrong every time though.
JD hasn't learned that lesson. He thinks everything is the way it is no matter what. Poppy remembers how suffocating that view used to be for her. JD is choking himself. He doesn't know that he's not always right. He doesn't know that his role doesn't have to be determined like that, none of them do. He is allowed to change, to be himself. He doesn't know that and Poppy feels sorry for him because of it.

It's been many, many years since the other members of BroZone have spent any real time with Branch. It was easy, in the beginning, to forget that Branch wasn't the same toddler they'd left behind for their grandma to raise. Now that they were staying with Branch for a while it was becoming increasingly clear that Branch had grown in a lot of different ways since they were kids. He was standoffish and neurotic and rough around the edges but it was blatantly obvious that he cared a lot more than he wanted them to know.
They wanted him to know that they cared too.

Summary
Branch knew that his brothers would have to leave. He'd be stupid to think that they could stay forever. They had their own lives to live and homes that they made for themselves, they couldn't just leave that behind and Branch didn't want them to. That didn't mean he wanted them to leave. He knows that they never had any plans to stick around, they'd made that clear to him, but he wasn't ready to say goodbye.
It's worse when it looks like they plan to try to be a family together. Without him.
