Summary
Demogorgon. She knows its name. She knows she hurt it. She knows she may never speak again. She knows it’s a miracle she's alive.
She knows Nancy saved her life.
The painkillers are strong. She hates being on them. If the Demogorgon returns, she doesn't know what she'll do, but she knows a haze of morphine will make fighting back a non-starter. Without them, every inch of her clawed-open body screams in agony; she wishes she could be strong enough to go without, but she isn't.
She isn't strong enough to do a lot of things.

“No, no, just listen! You're nervous about dating because you’re never been on a date with a guy. But I’m a guy, and I’ve been dating Max for like four years. Or, well, two, or maybe three if you count— the point is, a long time. I have tons of experience, and you won’t have to worry about embarrassing yourself since it’s just me. It’s perfect.”
Will’s brain crashes like an Atari unplugged mid-game. “Uh, what? What are you talking about?”
Lucas stops Will, pulling him off to the side to avoid the stream of sixth-period-bound students. He’s completely sincere. “Go out with me,” he says. Before Will’s jaw can make contact with the floor, Lucas amends, “I mean, not actually, but you can practice with me. I’ll show you what dating is like, and you can practice dating a guy."
Hawkins, senior year. When Will mentions how nervous he is about the prospect of dating, Lucas is quick to lend a hand. It's what any good friend would do, right?

“Yes,” El says, “but you can only have it if you answer the sports clue.”
“Don’t know it. Give me a different one.”
“El, what’s the V one again? Why is there a V there?”
“Because of 69-Down. ‘Numbered rd.,’ three letters. Abbreviation for road. We put avenue.”
“Avenue is not three letters,” Lucas points out.
El and Max make the same face, but El makes sure to point it directly at Lucas with enough judgy force for the both of them. “You are clearly a crossword imbecile.”

Will rocks forward, bearing his weight through to his feet. His voice mingles with the sound of cars below them.
“There's a game I play sometimes,” he says, eyes fixed on the sidewalk underneath. “It’s called ‘Could I survive this?’”
Mike presses his lips together. Slowly, he rests his feet back on the snowy fire escape.
“Are you playing it now?”
Will nods.

Summary
Mike swallows and reorganizes his priorities and grabs the radio out of the backpack. His fingers are on the push-to-talk when a loud clattering noise makes him whip towards the door. Will’s head snaps up at the same time, so Mike’s nose is in his hair, and normally that would be the distraction of a lifetime.
Except the clattering came from out there. The hallway beyond the door. And the only other thing in this school right now is—
“The Demodog.”
“Shh. Don’t move.”
As if Mike would be dumb enough to move. Still, not moving leaves them in what some would call a compromising position. When it was brief, Mike could stand not to notice every little detail, but rooted to their spots, he’s hyper-aware: their feet aligned in a puddle of Clorox, hips brushing, Will’s shoulder pressed into Mike’s chest, the tickle of Will’s hair against Mike’s nose. Mike clutching Will, Will clutching Mike.

One thing that Rocky has learned about humans is that they like to look at pictures.
Maybe. Or maybe it is just a particular habit of his Grace, who seems to pass more and more time sitting in the projection room and looking at his rolling images of Earth.
Rocky likes Earth. Especially the beach. That’s Grace’s favorite place, too.
But the pictures don’t change. Not more than they did the first time Grace showed him, with the waves crashing up onto the sand and the leaves of the trees rustling in the wind.
