Summary
“Jean?” comes Kevin’s voice as he lingers in the doorway. Jean wishes he was still curled up against the wall, that he had something behind him, a source of stability when he feels hollowed out and exposed. Instead, he takes a step back, the breath catching in his throat.
“Go away,” he says, trying to be as venomous as possible but so leached of energy that it’s left as just the plea of a broken man.
Kevin steps further into the room. “You’re bleeding.”

Summary
He looks over to his alarm clock that bears the angry red of 2:46am at him and he dreads morning practice. The start of a new week and Jean is going to spend it sleep deprived because he spent the entire night making sure Jeremy was alive.
The thing is, he knows that it only snowballs if he keeps checking, no matter how much he checks it won’t stop until he does. And he tries stopping, he really does, he makes it twenty minutes before he’s clawing at his neck and working the skin raw and stinging because Jeremy is dead and it’s all Jean’s fault .

Summary
The bathroom is bright and unfriendly but good enough as Kevin spits up blood in the sink. The red is stark against the porcelain of the basin but is easily washed away. He takes two cupped hands’ worth of water and rinses his mouth, spitting out rose.
The taste lingers a little but doesn’t come back stronger so he just washes his hands and re-emerges from the bathroom to his boyfriends’ watchful eyes. Neil’s more worried and Andrew’s always apathetic.
He offers them a smile that tugs at his swollen lips uncomfortably and Neil relaxes.

Summary
His mouth is sour with the taste of metal.
He runs his tongue along the fronts of his teeth before spitting onto the road below him, anything to try and clear the blood. His mouth doesn’t seem to be actively bleeding and he tongues a split lip, so that’s where it was coming from at least.
With his good arm, he tries to roll over to better get up from the road but his head promptly puts him on his ass and leaves him lying on the ground, gasping. It’s like someone has taken his head and put it under a lightning strike the way the pain fills his entire skull and shoots down into the rest of his body, leaving his fingers and toes tingling. Likely head injury, he mentally catalogues. His helmet should have mitigated most of it so he wonders how hard he hit his head for it to hurt like this and for his helmet to be missing in action.
Laila was going to kill him.

Summary
It comes back with Jean into the living area from the bathroom, his eyes downcast, and says he’s heading in for an early night.
Jeremy knows him well enough now that he knows something is wrong. He voices as much. “Are you alright, Jean?”
Jean looks up at him then, eyes a little wild. Not scared but bordering on a wild animal not yet backed into a corner. Then he presses his lips into a firm line and nods. “I’m okay.”
It’s a lie and they both know it but Jeremy knows when to let things slide so he sighs and leans back on the couch and offers Jean a lax smile. “Goodnight then. Sleep well.”

Summary
Neil quickly steps inside, shutting the door behind him as he kneels down next to Kevin. “I thought this was just a cold,” he mumbles, trailing his hand up Kevin's sweat-drenched spine as he sits hunched in front of the toilet.
Kevin shivers, shoulders hiked up to his ears as he audibly swallows something back. “Flu, I think.” As if to emphasize his point, he brings the neck of his shirt up to rub his snotty nose against, sniffling as he goes. “Feel gross.”

Neil wonders if Andrew will taste all that is wrong with Neil when he kisses him. He wonders if Andrew will recognize it. Andrew knows what it is to hurt himself, and this must be familiar. It’s deja vu, Neil thinks, if only a little bit worse, a little more terrible.
Neil shakes his head, groaning into the toilet, “I don’t want to tell you.”
Andrew pulls out his phone, and Neil can already hear it dialling when he says, “You can tell the paramedics.”
Or; “Cigarettes,” Neil says. “I ate your cigarettes.”

A hospital has never been so fucking quiet.
Or Neil dies in Baltimore but doesn’t quite leave. This a look into the complexity of Andrew’s trauma, grief, and psychosis that manifests itself as the undying ghost of Neil Josten. Reality and sanity are fragile concepts that Andrew isn’t too concerned about anymore; not if it means never letting Neil go, again and again and again. He made a promise, after all.

Summary
Jean really should have known it would be coming. The last few weeks had been too good, too calm and nice. He'd been going on runs and walks around the city with Jeremy, he'd been going on rides out to the middle of nowhere with Cat, and he'd been really enjoying learning to properly cook for himself with Laila. He'd even managed to eat most of what they'd made without panicking too much or trying to compensate. All in all, it had been nice. Jean didn't deserve that, and he should have known it wouldn't last.
