Eddie gapes down at him, like a fish out of water.
"You wanna have a baby," he says flatly. "At our age?"
"Why not?" Steve raises a challenging eyebrow even as he feels himself flush self-consciously. "I thought you were still young and hip in spirit."
Eddie boops him on the nose. "Yeah, in spirit, Stevie. My body is very much that of a fourty-three year old junk food addict who is just done raising one kid and needs his beauty sleep. And speaking of the kid we have, be careful what you wish for. We may just become granddads in the foreseeable future."
Steve lets his forehead sag against Eddie’s chest and feels how it rumbles with laughter. "Please don't talk about Dustin having kids, you'll make me feel old."
One of Eddie’s hands finds the nape of his neck and starts toying with his hair.
"You say that," he hums, "like you weren’t just up in my lap, riding me like a rodeo horse."

“Please, there’s no expiry date on Christmas magic,” Eddie huffs. His head comes to rest on Steve’s shoulder as they watch a girl with pigtails clamber onto Santa’s lap. “How old were you when you figured it out?”

For a few seconds, everything stays silent. Then, something shuffles and footsteps approach. The lock clicks, but the door doesn't open. When Steve steps into the tiny room, Eddie is already back in his desk chair, elbows bracketed on his knees, head almost level with his hands. He's holding something. A book.
A familiar mix of feelings stirs in Steve's guts. Alarm. Worry. The overwhelming need to find out who hurt his husband and slowly tear them limb from limb.

Eddie, perched atop the large folding ladder that's inches away from his bumper, glares down at him, like an angry, curly-haired gargoyle.
“The question is what are you doing? Trying to kill me? Because that's how you kill a guy, Stevie!”
Steve has half a mind to reply that this is how a guy gets himself killed, wobbling around on ladders in the middle of driveways, but he's way to confused. He didn't even know they owned a ladder.
Then again, he also didn't know they owned a basketball hoop, yet here they are.

The terrace seems weirdly quiet and empty without Eddie’s presence. Eddie, who is all loud and wild on the outside, but kind and considerate on the inside. Who will gladly reopen the scars of his own past to make a sad little boy feel better. Who calls Steve cute, and a softie, and thinks his son is the greatest kid in the world.
Steve sighs and runs a hand through his hair. He digs his fingers into the bridge of his nose so hard his nails leave little indents in the sensitive skin there. Then, he lets out a heavy breath, types and hits send before he can overthink it for too long.
I think I’m fucked.

Steve, who has just ripped through the tape binding his wrists in an impressive feat of strength, freezes mid movement. His nostrils flare and Eddie can practically see the moment it clicks for him, even before his eyes flick down.
“Wait a second,” he mutters, and then his eyes are back on Eddie’s face, wide and panicked and disbelieving. “You are-”
“Pretty fucking hot when tied up?” Eddie rasps around an aching jaw, voice still hoarse with misuse. “Why, gee, who knew you were into that kinda stuff, Harrington?”
“Stop joking, that’s not what I meant!”
The command is sharp, and Eddie finds his jaw clenching shut against his conscious will. A red-hot flush is crawling up Steve's neck, but his face is full of serious concern.
“You're in heat,” he murmurs.

“To keep our people safe,” his father says.
“Ned has to be placated and it’s only the blood of a royal virgin that appeases him,” Lord Hornigold explains.
Prince Stede Bonnet is seconds away from being sacrificed to a sea dragon when a sea monster named Ed rescues him instead.
