The toothbrush didn’t leave its place beside hers, however the secret language they once spoke had simply gone extinct like a dead tongue, and even when Trinity tried she couldn’t figure out what words could express what she felt. She had forgotten the dictionary they had written together, the one García had taken with her.
And it didn’t help the obvious distance García had started leaving between them during this shift. Fourth of July, they were supposed to watch fireworks together; she had the apartment to herself… maybe it had been her attempt to make things feel like before, but instead she only got Yolanda throwing her own words back at her.
“We're just keeping it casual, right?”
Santos really felt like she was about to have a breakdown right there.

“I know you mentioned a raincheck,” Santos begins, and then she gets a little lost.
(She has the next words ready.
She’s been practicing them in her head for the last few minutes.
Still, they’re caught in her throat like a sip of water going down the wrong pipe.)
But Garcia is patient.
So unbelievably fucking patient.
"But I don’t—want to be alone,” Santos admits with a slight grimace, trying to sound chill and casual even though this isn’t chill and casual at all. But her voice comes out audibly strained because that was just enough of a lie to make her squeeze her eyes shut and bite her bottom lip way too hard. “I probably shouldn’t be alone tonight,” she corrects with what little air is left in her lungs.
“Okay,” Garcia says, simple and gentle and effortless, and nods toward the passenger side. “Get in.”

Trinity’s mind went blank with a combination of shock and heady arousal, “You want to fuck me with it?” She blinked, trying to process the suggestion. It felt too lame to say out loud, but she really, really liked the idea that Yolanda would be her first for something. For this. The thought made her heart race with just how badly she wanted to give this piece of herself to Yolanda.
