“Bruce, you would report parents like those to the police. And by the time I was with the Titans, I would too. And still, Bruce, still, I took it when you hurt me because—because I don’t know. Because maybe, somewhere along the way, I started pretending you weren’t my father.”
"Hurt you," Jason echoes, and now his voice isn't raspy because he's pretending to be Batman. Bruce hurt Dick. The first son, the favourite, the one most like him.
Bruce hurt him?
"Do you still not understand what you did? What you keep doing? ‘It is what it looks like.’ Funny how I only realised it after my death, after you beat me up and sent me away from my family.”
Dick stands up, all stiff movements. The light from outside hits him directly, and Jason realises he’s in a nightmare.
Jason was—he was dreaming. This—this man, hunched and shaking and bleeding—cannot be Dick. His brother’s face could never be dripping with blood from his father’s fists.
“Look. You’ve made me a victim,” Dick tells him.
OR
Dick finally realises Batman is an abusive piece of shit, and so do his brothers. What follows is never that simple.

Jason feels his face turning blank, “Explain.”
Dick shrugs and a small self-deprecating smile slips out. “You know how my reputation is.”
Jason is not having it. He growls, “What reputation.”
Dicks rolls his eyes playfully, “We all know who the playboy of this family is. I have liked so many people Jay, and they’ve liked me too. Besides, I can never not flirt.”
“Okay,” he let Dick keep up his charade. “But why does that matter?”

“Not ones that include hitting each other,” Derek said

Literary gem. Loved every character so much, so well characterised and also so so so well plotted. The last chapter is my absolute favourite. The banter made me laugh so much. All the dialogue between characters is just so witty. Brilliant writing.

Summary
Comics-ish alternate universe, where Dick goes to ground in Crime Alley after Blockbuster implodes his entire life, and joins the Red Hood Gang by accident. Jason's plans for revenge get magnificently derailed, and the Batfam manages to be just a little bit softer.

Literary gold. One of the best works I've ever read. I didn't go into the main story knowing that it's a Dick/Jason fic but holy shit. I loved their dynamic so much. I loved EVERYONE'S dynamic with literally everyone. So much care has been put into developing the characters AND the plot. Everything comes together so beautifully. Even the pace of it is beautiful. Every scene, every action of a character, every word is intentional. This is the kind of writer I want to be oooof.
Still have to finish many of the other works in this series.
