Gwen couldn’t remember the last time she was out of her apartment for something other than work. For the past couple of weeks, she’d followed her schedule even more strictly than usual: eat something quick at 8:30 PM, walk to work, do her job from 9:00 to 5:00, walk home, then catch a few hours of sleep. Or at least, she had tried to. As she shot awake in a cold sweat, no matter how many lights she had left on, Gwen couldn’t shake the feeling that she was being watched.

Martin just stands there, mind short-circuiting before he realizes that he was a caretaker, and he knows what to do. He wipes away the saliva from Jon’s chin and hails a cab, and he feels just responsible enough to go with him to A&E, which was a fantastic idea because Jon doesn’t come back to himself until Martin’s halfway done with the paperwork.
Jon does not get his proper diagnosis until many years and specialist visits later. They sent him home the first time with fever-reducers and what to look out for in case of another minor seizure. The doctor said that, though uncommon, stress-induced seizures were not wholly unheard of in the medical community, and that history likely would not repeat itself.
