when Hakodas crew gets shipwrecked on a small island just out of fire nation waters everyone assumed they were alone on the island. that was until Hakoda made an alarming discovery on the other inhibitor here. very quickly the crew realized that they cant just leave a kid alone on the island and try to do something about it. all the while their elusive new friend is just trying to dig up what he had left behind of his life and why he was on the island in the first place.

He gulped, then took a deep breath and squared his shoulders. “Look, uh, Aang, and Zuko- there- there aren’t any southern waterbenders anymore. And. There haven’t been any airbenders either, not in a hundred years, when Sozin’s Comet kinda kickstarted the war.”
The baby dragon made an unhappy squeak as its owner staggered backwards to drop onto his butt in the snow.

Finally Katara opened her eyes, feeling the way her heart pounded in her chest. Without warning, tears form in her eyes, one escaping and trailing down her cheek.

After his Agni Kai, Zuko had fled without Iroh or his crew. He found himself in the Earth Kingdom rescued by two farmers. On a trip into town, he runs into a man with a story painfully similar to Zuko's who had been able to find a happy life in the earth Kingdom, leaving the ideals of the Fire Nation behind. He is able to help Zuko settle into his new life as well.

How bout instead of Zuko betraying the gaang and his uncle, he frees them and gets imprisoned in the Boiling Rock. The treatment is terrible for a small person such as himself, especially as a hidden omega. He fears that he might go into heat as he has no access to his heat suppressants. But he recognizes those icy blue eyes that made his inner omega shiver.

Hakoda's crew is unconventional, he's well aware of this. He was prepared for the twins, the bickering married couple, the youngest crewmates that will make trouble matter no what. He was not prepared for the Fire Nation Prince.
He certainly was not prepared to have to deal with parenting said prince upon some interesting discoveries.
He just wishes his crew would stop becoming Fire Nation sympathizers. (You know who you are. Please stop encouraging the kid.)
