Lancelot is sent back to Camelot to share Merlin's burden. Arthur thinks they're together romantically and gets jealous. A magic reveal turns their worlds upside down, and Lancelot is left to pick up the pieces. With Gwaine's help of course.

As a druid, Mordred had been raised on the stories of the old gods, of their lord Emrys and how his coming would mean freedom for their people. What he had trouble with was seeing Merlin -clumsy, gangly, grinning Merlin- as anything more than a faltering servant. That is, until Emrys shows him otherwise.

Summary
Set into the wall, a brazier evenly spaced between them, were words, each with the imprint of a hand below it, and a pair of footprints set into the floor below that. Loyalty, Strength, Courage, Servitude, Magic, Nobility, Humility, Authority, and Discipline. Merlin recognized the riddle right away, having met the dwarf during Arthur’s quest. He knew three of the names, three of the matches — and it terrified him. What would the others make of him being Magic? He shivered, a thrill of fear running down his spine.

He stares up, confused why this one is denying his nature. He tilts his head, “Are you not a god?”
Merlin blinks, and then a moment later is doubled over with laughter, until he has to sit down with him on the grass and clutch his side, nearly crying. “Me?” He sputters, “Oh, tell that to Arthur, he’d love that.” He giggles again, grinning as if they’re sharing some fond joke.
Lancelot stares, then shakes his head. A trickster god, perhaps? But no, that light… it could only come from the highest of sources, not a simple spirit or fae.
“What makes you think I’m a god anyways?”
“You look human, but here,” he motions to the center of his own chest, “there is something else. Something more. It is small, but dense and bright beyond what my eyes could register. Gold or white or lightning-blue, trapped in tight vibrations. It is a god’s light, and pure.”
Merlin swallows, looking away as he digests this, “I…that’s not me. You must be mistaken, my friend. My mother was a mortal woman and I bleed like any other.”

Standing right in front of the torn veil, Lancelot turns for a moment, smiling serenely at Merlin. Then, he faces the tear once more and, squaring his shoulders, steps forward. He spreads his arms, as if welcoming the nothingness, and his entire form flickers, as if seen through rippling water.
A shout is torn from Merlin’s throat, caught somewhere between an anguished “No!” and wordless horror. This was supposed to be Merlin’s destiny to bear, not Lancelot’s.
