"No, reckon I don’t," Arthur admitted, so quietly Charles barely heard him over the sound of hooves moving through the snow.
Pearson was ecstatic seeing the deer and quickly kidnapped Arthur to help (or rather do) the skinning and meat portioning. Charles caught the way Arthur didn’t even fight it, simply accepting the new chore despite barely standing upright.

While the voice that broke through the storm was familiar, the words spoken weren’t. You had only usually heard this voice when it was directed at some of the more established members or when it was being used on the gang as a whole. You hadn’t much heard Mr. Van Der Linde call your name. He wasn’t unwelcoming, it was more that he was untouchable. Something…or someone that inspired myth and lore as opposed to idle conversation.
It only made sense that when he spoke, you listened without question. When he asked, you’d do without question. Even when he hadn’t asked, you’d anticipated without question. Doing everything and more to prove your worth and earn your keep around camp. Arthur was the first to take notice, realizing there was never any wood to chop or sacks of food to move because you’d been up early doing it all.
