Jordie leans toward Kaz, and his mouth moves, but Kaz doesn't hear any of it. He lifts a gloved hand to touch Jordie, to make sure he is really there. Jordie freezes when Kaz's hand touches his face. There is worry in Jordie's eyes, and Kaz just wants to apologize that it took so long for them to see each other again. His mind briefly flashes to Inej and how sorry he is that he doesn't get to spend more time with her, but Jordie is in front of him, and that seems more pressing.

Kaz might even admit that perhaps this ordinary day-to-day was a nice aftermath of his bumpy childhood. The familiarity of his crows, his routine, brought him comfort.
Something shifts in the air when a new face appears in his life. He doesn't believe in fate. He doesn't. He believes in his survival and his crows. His solitude had never been an inconvenience for him. But something in her, how she fits in easily, her quick wit that could rival his or easy laugh, just might him reconsider his beliefs.

Summary
Ace was wanted all over Ketterdam, as an outlaw. A thief amongst merchants and barrel bosses; and an excellent one at that. No one knew her face but her name was like a scream in the streets; everyone turned her way.
Ace was also wanted by Dirtyhands, but for entirely other reasons. The Bastard of the Barrel didn't want her dead or alive, or for some measly reward (that had no right to be so low). He wanted her for her skills, because Ace was the Thief of Ketterdam, and the Ice Court was impossible to break into.
Ace would never turn down 30 million kruge, especially if it came at a cost—prize—of an impossible heist.
