Gabriel was almost certain that the reason Boone took the first watch was because he didn't trust Arcade, but he didn't see how that was really possible. Yeah, he could be with the Legion, but no one that was so cute when they slept was with the Legion. "Are you gonna lay down or what?"
Stiffly, Arcade laid down on his bedroll and moved a pointy rock that hit the back of his head through the fabric. Gabriel was laying on his side, staring at him. Arcade blushed and turned over, his back to the little cowboy.
He didn't know why he thought that because they were trying to sleep that Gabriel would stop talking.
Or, Arcade Gannon patches up an irradiated cowboy that convinces him to tag along with himself and Boone, much to his chagrin. Camping out in the wasteland, Arcade explains to Gabriel what being touch-starved means, and everything spirals from there.

An amnesia ridden courier wakes up in Goodsprings, and remembers nothing of his past. The Mojave's two biggest factions vie to gain the courier's trust and employ. The Legion, to regain a frumentarius back into their ranks, and the NCR to get a legionnaire without the legion in him. In this vie for power, the NCR plans to gain his allegiance by any means necessary. Using a recently outed Major Knight of the Mojave Outpost, the NCR hopes to gain a strong soldier and instructor for their military by making Knight get into a relationship with said ex-legion courier. -

Two hundred and fifty-odd years was a long time for a Kansas boy to survive the post-apocalypse- and civilization wasn't treating him much better. The courier gig was supposed to get him away from all that, and from the folks in New Reno who wanted his head.
Turns out, in the wasteland, that shit finds a way to follow you. Who'da thought.

The Mojave Wasteland is vast and mostly uninhabited by anything not trying to kill you, but when Esther finally breaks free from the bonds of her life as a Legion slave, she finally has a chance to disappear. Her attempt to begin a new, simple life is quickly shot down by witnessing a violent murder in a hilltop graveyard - but when the supposed corpse still has a pulse, she figures that life might be more complicated than she had planned.
This is basically a re-telling of the story of Fallout: New Vegas from the perspective of someone who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, but more detailed!
