The air is warm. The ground is damp from the rain an hour prior. House music thuds from an open window and bodies are jostled around in rhythm with the beat.
It’s Friday night and Lando is standing at the Piastris’ front door knowing it’s the last time he can dream about how Oscar will react when he sees his face again.
He rings the doorbell and tries to forget how Oscar used to leave the side door unlocked so that he could come in without disturbing his cat. Lando wonders if he went and tried to open that door now if it would give just as easily as it used to.

Summary
The Grid is not officially a frathouse, but it's not not a frathouse. With the reputation they have- and fourteen university students from different countries in different majors shoved together into one house- it's basically a fraternity focused on pancakes, homosexual relationships, and trying not to flunk out of university. From the flood-prone basement to the drafty attic, the building has been through near-catastrophic fires, house-dividing arguments, Halloween parties, and more inhabitants than is probably recommended. Given the complicated relationships and rivalries between the many current and former residents, that's to be expected, right? At least the building is still standing.

The click of Oscar’s Tupperware closing brought Lando back out of his thoughts. Right. He still had one more class, then yoga, and then he could panic about his maybe-crush on his roommate.
Jesus Christ, what kind of idiot developed a crush on their roommate?

Flash. Click. The shot captured them mid-laugh, eyes locked - Oscar’s expression soft and unguarded, Lando’s relaxed and carefree.
It looked real. Too real.
“Brilliant, lads!” PR said. “We’ll send the relevant pictures to you two to post, alright?”
Lando leant back into his seat, muttering, “Brilliant, huh? Guess we’re good at pretending.”
Oscar glanced at him, still caught off guard.
“Yeah,” he says quietly. “Guess we are.”
The next day, the picture hit Instagram.

Summary
For McLaren, Lando Norris is the golden boy, and Oscar Piastri is the talented number two. At least, that's how it was supposed to be. But when Oscar's speed becomes a real threat in 2025, the friendly partnership fractures.
After a mistake on track leaves Oscar vulnerable, a moment of fake (or not?) kindness from Lando feels more like an insult; a pat on the head from a driver who doesn't fear him (or does he?).
That was the final straw. Oscar is done playing nice and ready to prove that the biggest threat to Lando's ambitions is sitting in the exact same car as him.

Summary
Formula one cars move at over 300 km/h. That means over 80 meters go by in a second; and that is the reason why drivers train their reflexes.
Oscar barely saw it coming his way, it came at him too suddenly, but that is no excuse, he trains his reflexes for a reason.
Later, reviewing the onboards and multiple track cameras, he’d learn that Max had swerved too close over the edge and displaced the debris. It bumped into the side of his car and the wind sent it flying backwards right onto Oscar’s path.
But that is at a later date, right now Oscar tries to swerve to avoid the mysterious object.
And he fails.
