Summary
Five years have passed since the Blip and death of Thanos, Scott Lang has just turned up from the Quantum Realm talking 'time travel'. Bruce and Rocket are nearly ready to go find Thor at New Asgard and ask him to join the team. And a very dead-seeming but somehow 'living' Loki has 'fallen from the ceiling'.
-Story picks up right before Bruce/Rocket go find Bro!Thor. Loki is some kind of undead, and Stephen Strange isn't an option for help until the snap can be undone.

Summary
(Fic re-edited and re-posted. It will be updated as I edit the chapters. PLEASE read the Note at the start for clarification and info and please do give the fic time to build, it is a little misleading at the beginning, for good reason.)
When Thor was banished from Asgard after creating trouble with the Jotun, he stayed on Earth. Loki on the other hand, took over Asgard in lieu of the Odinsleep, and, surprisingly, turned out to be a wise leader.
Meanwhile, Thor, unable to figure out mortal life beyond fighting and conflict, becomes a private military contractor, shipped over to the most dangerous conflict zones in the world, and in the process, finally understands who he is, and what he represents. He thinks of Loki often and he thinks about the things he never told him, the touches that almost were. And, from the shadows, Loki is watching him, yearning for him in silence, restrained and unrestrained, both of them held in shackles by words that were never said.
Then one day in the midst of a gunfight, something shatters and they are both forced to look at the pieces of what they've broken.Canon divergence starting from the first Thor movie, when Agent Coulson asks Thor if he is military.

Summary
Odin, instead of banishing Thor to Midgard, strips him of all the facets of his identity as Prince Thor of Asgard, sentencing him to live as a mute thrall in Asgard until he proves himself worthy. Loki convinces their father to put Thor in Loki's service. Thor isn't best pleased about his little brother being his 'master', and Loki is a little too pleased about it. The situation gives them both perspective on each other, the chance to mend their frayed brotherhood, and the opportunity for them to realize they have some less than brotherly feelings for each other.
Also, there's the little matter of Loki's parentage and Loki becoming king when Odin falls into the Odinsleep, and Thor is in the Vault this time.

Summary

"Yes, I am, thank you," Thor replied, for he did feel warm, and knew it meant death claimed him at last.
The world faded into a smear of gray and white and blue. Thor forced words out through his shaking lips. "Please, death-god, I do not fear you. Take me quick, for my body pains me."
The frost-demon smiled at that, all sharp teeth, and closed the distance between them. He planted a kiss on Thor's forehead, so cold it burned like fire, and Thor knew no more.-
