Harley lowered her arms, eyes filled with tears, and said in a quiet, miserable voice. "Circus. He said it was the circus..."
Bruce looked down, tears in his own eyes. No matter how much he heard it, no matter how many times he was face with the truth that it wasn't, he always helplessly thought, 'ice show... he told me it was the ice show...' Yes, he was that one 'parole officer'. Yes, he admits it. As unprofessional as it sounds, he had fallen in love with his enemy. Bruce remembered when he confused this to the Joker, and had said, "pretty crazy, huh?"
Joker had said back, sounding sincere and totally in love with Batman, "not at all. As a dedicated, career-oriented, heroic man, you felt the need to abstain from all amusement and fun."
Bruce had beamed, as embarrassing as it was to admit.
"It's only natural you'd be attracted to a man who could make you laugh again." Joker had continued.
"I knew you'd understand..." Bruce had said.
Joker had given him a gentle smile, "any time."
Bruce now knew different, but it had hurt... it still hurts. -
