“We need to break into the study,” Monday declared, standing up, chair flinging back behind her and thudding to the ground.
“Are you crazy?” Friday hissed back. “Madre would kill us if we snuck in there without her permission.”
“She needs our help. You’ve seen how tired and broken down she’s seemed lately.”
Friday shook her head, “No. Us getting involved would only make things worse.”
Both girls looked at Sunday, who had been eerily quiet.
“You’re the tiebreaker,” Monday remarked, “what’s it gonna be?”
Sunday grimaced and gave Friday a guilty look. “I agree with Monday. We at least need to find out what’s going on.”
Friday frowned but, via Addams triplet law, she had to concede to the wills of her sisters as she was outvoted. “How do we even know they’re gone?”
Sunday gave Friday an unamused look. She flashed open her pajama flannel to reveal Thing hiding in an inside pocket. “Do you really think that I wouldn’t have a plan?”

Summary

Guardsman Enid Sinclair is a recently conscripted soldier assigned to protect the regiment’s psyker—or, if the raw animal power of the Warp overtakes her, to provide the Emperor’s Peace. Wednesday is a veteran of a dozen wars, a deadly force on the battlefield, begrudgingly respected by the Guardsmen she serves alongside.
