“Charlie, breathe,” Nick interrupts, forcing Charlie to look at him by cupping his jaw, taking a deep breath for Charlie to copy.
Charlie looks back at Nick and follows his breathing, his eyes falling shut when he feels a sob start to build in his throat. Nick leans forward so their foreheads touch and nuzzles his nose.
“There’s nothing wrong with Abi,” he starts softly. “We’ve said that from the start, right? No matter what any tests say, she’s still our perfect little girl. She’s just going to need some more help than her sisters and that’s okay.”

This is a story about a boy growing up in an environment where he feels he doesn't belong, he doesn't fit in, and all he wants is someone to stand by his side. Charlie's story is one of courage and resilience, of facing innumerable challenges yet still being true to himself, refusing to compromise on his innate values and beliefs. It is a story of hope.
This fic will build a different backstory for Charlie, but his character will, in essence, be similar to canon. Charlie will meet Nick at uni. This is not a slow burn; once they meet, they are immediately gone for each other, and they will have their romance and happy ending despite some challenges and road bumps along the way. This is Nick and Charlie we're talking about.
Despite the heavy angst tagging, there will be loads of fluff to balance!
For the first time ever, I am creating original characters and it's been so much fun to do!

Summary
Charlie has no need to turn back the clock nearly a decade.But when he receives an email from a charity shop worker who's come into possession of a letter intended for him when he was still a teenager, he can't help but wonder if he should rekindle a connection with the estranged ex who sent it. All the while, he grapples with a longstanding belief that he's not good enough, yet, to deserve what he wants.
While he awaits Nick's response, he spends a couple of hours in the world of a woman mourning the disappearance of her husband. The book isn't one Charlie would usually pick, but he's pulled in by the portrayal of love's evolution, how it can change shape to fit a new vessel but still be as deep and rewarding the second time around as it was the first.
He closes it after the woman meets her long-lost husband for the first time in years, shaken by the progression of her thoughts as she reckoned with the realisation that she had betrayed not only him but herself in his absence. He doesn't have the mental fortitude to consume another quarter of the novel.
Not now. Not when he pulls out his phone and sees nothing worth reading on his screen.

Summary
This is it. Senior year. Year thirteen. Charlie’s almost out, he’s going to lift his grades, spend time with his friends, and then leave Truham far, far behind him.
One caveat: Truham’s “seniority program” means that he will be paired with an upper classman from last year’s graduating class. The better to prepare for college, etc. etc…but his partner is the ex-captain of the rugby team, possibly the laddest lad the school could possibly think of to pair with the outed gay kid.
But there’s something quite a bit different about Nicholas Nelson.

“Family only,” he informs him sternly, disappearing behind the glass door. The doctor joins the throng of medical personnel surrounding the man’s body, and when they wheel the gurney out of sight, Charlie staggers back from the glass wall like he’s been punched.
Shock and helplessness coalesce within him. Inexplicably, he finds himself laughing, his trembling fingers lifting to his lips to contain the mirthless giggles that spill forth. “Oh, God,” he whispers. “I was going to marry that man.”
