After decimating most of The Southern Water Tribe, The Fire Nation is finding peace hard to broker. When a political marriage is proposed, Chieftan Hakoda is reluctant to accept, and that was before he found out the fire nation candidate was a child. A child no older than his own.
Obviously, the marriage is off.
But one look at the prince sends off all sorts of red flags in Hakoda’s brain. It's clear he can’t send the boy back, but he also can’t marry him. Soulmarks are a weakness. Azula has always known that.
They only bloom when you love someone - their name, written on you, a brand that shows who exactly is your weakness. Father has no soulmarks; he has left none on anyone else, either. Soulmarks are a weakness; he says this, and because it is him, the word is law.
Azula shouldn't have soulmarks. And for the most part, she doesn't. She does not have her mother's name, Ursa, like Zuko does; she does not have Father's name, Ozai, either—but then again, neither does mother or Zuko as well. She doesn't have Iroh's name either, unlike Zuko and Lu Ten, but Azula is okay with this because compared to father, everyone else is not worth her time.
She already knew she was unlovable—that no one loves her, that no one will. That, after all, is how it's supposed to be; Azula is not a creature of love—she can only burn.
And yet, right on her wrist, is the name Zuko.

Summary
For Firelord Zuko and Ambassador Sokka, the war has ended and they spend their days now, four years after peace has flourished across the land, putting down cells of Ozai's sympathizers and forging their relationship behind closed doors. When the Gaang takes up a mission to squash the very last of Ozai's supporters, Zuko and Sokka are caught in a collapsing tunnel and buried alive. Seemingly escaping the kiss of death, they wake to a world that is not their own.
At the behest of spirit dabbling, both Sokka and Zuko are thrown into an alternate reality that mirrors their own. Sixteen again, they face the massive jarring changes of what could have been their lives had the war gone differently. Aang never woke up from the iceberg. The Southern Waterbenders were never targeted and the Southern Tribe is a close twin to the North's elitist personality. Iroh never lost Lu Ten to the siege of Ba Sing Se and the strangest change of all, Ozai is a loving parent to his beloved son.
Together, Sokka and Zuko need to find a way back to their own world and bodies, and figure out what the spirits intended for them in this strange dreamlike world.

This is the beginning of a majorly divergent AU of ATLA (Avatar: The Last Airbender) that reaches post-Hundred Year War and eventually into LoK (Legend of Korra). There are pairings that take place later, but not at the beginning because they're too young for that sort of nonsense.
